Niagara Bar - Dec 1st - Laker Opener

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Niagara Bar - Dec 1st - Laker Opener

Post by Markus »

My wait was finally over! Dec 1st had finally come and the long awaited Laker opener had arrived. I hardly sleep last night.
Under normal circumstances I don't get this excited, but this was lined up to be my first trip to the Niagara river this fall.
Determining what bait to start with was on my mind all night, I decided to let the river conditions decide.

Morning coffee at Timmies was the first stop and then I was off the Brantford to meet Bosc and Salmon....then to grab JoeOD.
Uneasy about being late, left a few minutes early and I was pleased to see everyone was at the scheduled meeting points!
Dropped my Striper in first and then Bosc dropped his Lund in.

Made the quick run to the bar and set up. Less then 6IN visibility. Wind and temp was perfect.
Unfortunately, we didn't even get a hit. After a few drifts we knew we were wasting our time. Back to the river. No better.
Discussions about heading to Dalhousie started, but I soon got a call from Bosc and Simon. They motored up, no good either.

Making a few river drifts was our only option. Pinkies, Yarn, Streamers, Roe...nothing got notice.
Until the river clears up, we'll have to wait for another shot at the fish. We'll be back just as soon as it does.
Did get to meet a few guys today. Great to meet Fishin-Nut, Jfish and EWJ88 and also saw Gord Pyzer working the river.

Met Hamilton Steve, Jackson and Crash in the river too. They were headed to the mouth to try thier luck too.
Up until we took the boat back out I just kept telling myself...keep you line down. There's lots of fish! They'll bit eventually!
Did anyone else have success today? Skunked today, but I can't wait to get back and give it another go!

Never went Steve.

Got back to the ramp and spent a little time shooting the breeze with a couple of the NFN gentlemen. My cell rang and it was Bosc! He said him and Salmon motored up to POrt D and it was mud too.

I just worked the back drift for a while. Fish were boiling everywhere. :?

you saw those browns boiling as well eh?

it was frustrating to say the least...

we should have tried drifting weightless minnows on the surface.

Ever fish in chocolate milk?

To bad about the river and the bar, but at least I know where the cut of to the launch is again, beats driving all through Queenston next time out. :D

Salmon and I motored to PD? Humm.

But the weather was great.......

Ya did her where?

Great post, bad luck.

Glad I didn't drive down to meet ya, have my car breakdown, and then get stranded again.
But maybe I'll roll the dice once the river clears and the fish start biting.

Tough luck boys, keep at her.
