Vexilar or Lowrance Ice Machine

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Vexilar or Lowrance Ice Machine

Post by Spence Scout »

Now I know a great deal about both.. I am around them all day long. However Im looking for someone who has used both is there anybody out there who can tell me which one is more suitable for ice fishing. I want to buy one or the other but cant determine by just doing research I need someone with experience who have actually sued them to enlighten me on how useful one or the other can be

Spence, I'd suggest posting on iceshanty.com in the general chit chat forum... lotsa guys have the Lowrance units while some don't have many good things to say 'bout them at all. You should be able to get some useful advice over there bud.

Vexilar vs. Lowrance

Post by soggy bottom boy »

Have the Vexi, and it works amazing! I have lowrance products in several boats, but think the Vex works very well particularly for the stationary quality of ice fishing. You don't need to see bottom contours, only the bottom, the lure that you are working, and lots of fish. I've used a Lowrance portable in the past for ice fishing, and know the LCD did't work well in extreme cold. Presume the new ice models have addressed this.

I've used the Vexilars, the x67c icemachine and the Marcum Lx-3 and will get a shot with the LX-5 soon . The Lowrance x67c has no issues with the cold like Lcds did . I did my own comparisons with all three on ice and went with the Marcums and stand by that but if I only had the x67c or the vex fl-18 to choose from and wanted it for on ice only I would go with a Vex mostly because the x67c is too techy for me and also because it suffers from interference issues when being used close to other sonars but it will get the job done . Lots of good posts and threads at iceshanty.com in the equipment boards and plenty of satisfied guys on each side of the coin toss but the marcums are starting to make waves especially with their latest and greatest the Lx-5 hitting the shelves . Too put it mildly any other flasher is trying to catch up with the Marcum Tech .

I agree with trapperdirk, I have a MarCum LX5 and man it does stuff no others do.
Imagine a zoom you can move anywhere in the water column, nobody else has a unit that does that.
And the display is very bright even in the sun.
Spence Scout if you ever fish Petrie on a Saturday look me up and I'll be glad to show you mine  .
Well and truly hooked!
