what do you think about,,boat opertor card..

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

I think it is a good idea if handled properly which it hasn't been can you imagine if people got there drivers lic that way ? Scary thought. I know most people here don't need the card due to exprience and common respect on the water but there are people out there that need a course.
I have boated on the rivers and lakes alot and the course came in handy only when i went on big water (Georgian bay). It is alot different. I think if the people that are causing the problems on small lakes ever found there way to big water they would find them selfs in trouble.
So the idea is good but the program has a lot kinks in it.

My uncle up north is an instructor for that, and he had hired a OPP officer to give him a hand for giving out the tests, after a year or so somebody reported that officer and said that he was selling the cards away and his position on that was, that he did that only for older people, he said that it wasn't fair. I totally agree with him on that but what he did was illegal.

One of my fishing buddy from up north has been fishing for 50 years and i'm pretty sure that every time he drove his boat that he probably met another boat on the same lake he was on two or three times a year. and he only has a 7.5 hp engine. and he fishes every day during the seasons. And he fishes the lakes that he finds, that the walleyes are better tasting. and he's tried every lake inthe area and there is a lot of them. He's an old lumberjack and if he wants to find a lake he'll find it. So why would this guy need a operator card after 50 years of fishing.

and another reason that this is crazy for him personally he doesn't know how to read or write!! But he passed his test on the internet with flying colors.
When hell freezes over, I'll be there icefishing!!!

If you can't stand behind our troops,
Please feel free to stand in front of them!!!

ONE example are the law somtime is a bit,,,,, :? .....

there a guy in montreal that was charge and got a ticket,,,,,,,,he was in a paddleboat wit a 2h motor........  and did not have a operator card.... :?

you can t drive a canoe wit a 2 h without a card.BUT you can drive a cigarettes boat going 120mph on the river, without one,,, :? ,,,there is so mutch logic in that governement programmes..... ......

its a good thing to have a programme,,,,,,,even wit some practicale course in it,,,,,,but give the right way and do it correctly ,,,not just to say we did take care off it,and they wash there hands that way,,,,,,,and they do the cash........ :x

A pure Joke....

I'll never get it.....and take my chances....

After all.....I've been on the water boating for about 20 years....and have been asked for my license once....and it was on the ice....

I buy my license every year thinking that maybe 20 cents of it actually go back to the fisheries...but I doubt it...

The B.O.C is a complete joke!

I classify this on the same level as the gun registry, which hopefully if the Conservatives keep their promise will be history.

The card is a joke the test can be passed by a 10 yr old, if adults require help to pass it they should stop and think  Young people under 18 should be required to take a proper boating course period. Others who have boating experience and fish lakes and rivers say smaller than Simcoe fine but there should be restrictions, HP, LOA and water body should be used to determine what level of competency is required. Boat registration safety and navigational equipment required have these restrictions why not licensing?

Funny you should mention the guy getting a ticket in a small boat and nothing to worry in the big boat.

In the last couple of years the government has implimented some new laws for all tour operators in Canada. This naturally includes guides even though very few of us are legal. This includes having our boats federally inspected, carrying life vests and not PFD's. And here is the kicker any boat over 27 feet that goes more then 2 miles from shore needs a life raft big enough for the number of passengers on board. This means the guys in small boats can go out in the middle of Lake Ontario without a life raft but the guys with the bigger and safer boats need them. Total non sense.

This actually caused many charter captains to ether call it quits or stop been legit or going underground. Those life rafts cost a fortune to buy and need expensive maintenance as well as been replaced after a few years. This may also explain an increase in prices.
Catch and release them all

I've got a bit of a different angle. I'm not new to boating, but I've always used rentals on water I know. I'm planning to buy a boat and am glad to take a course to learn the right way from the start.

That said, I'm fricken sick & tired of seeing our lawmakers make, change, and fail to enforce all the crap they put through. If I want to put a trolling motor on my canoe, I need a license? Yeah, whatever.

I don't know who's in charge of allocating the funds we put into fishing licenses, boating licenses etc etc, but it's bull!@#$ that our dollars don't go straight back to pay for the resources that we use.

I'd pay double for my fishing license every year if I knew the $$ would be used to improve/restore/preserve our fisheries. Same goes for the boating license.

But... What I continually see is the gov't collecting more money from me and using it for less of what I'm paying it towards.

I'd pay to have a nose-hair-trimmer license if for once they'd use the money for our natural resources instead of misallocating it to wherever it goes now.

The intentions are good
educate people on the rules of boating for everyones benifit and also safe boating practices...the literature is out there for free

most people have common sense and are courteous towards others. They are victims of a money grab they dont need the test or card :)

some people are in need of educating should pass a test to be able to operate a boat

and too many are just idiots who ruin it for all , they pass the test but do as they please on the water :x
making a person get a boating card doesnt mean anythig really
just looks good on paper

Do americans need a boaters card to operate a boat in our waters??????? :?

look at the roads and highways, every one passed a test , and how many bad drivers do you see in one day? :(
