Hey folks, Markus here.
I had my account disabled so no one would send me PM's and have them go unanswered. My wifes account is still here, so I thought I'd drop everyone a line and make a few comments in regards to jig heads post and a few emails I’ve recieved.
As you all know, a while ago I made the decision to stop participating on public message boards. I haven’t regretted this decision for a second. I always believed that message boards were a good place for guys to help one another become better anglers, make new friends and to help educate others with regards to our passionate past time. Truth is…they are, but there are other problems with public sites that have made them less desirable to me.
I do indeed have my own www address now. It’s no big deal. It’s not a big fancy message board where there are 1000’s of people visiting everyday. In fact, it’s just a small corner of the Internet where I can share a few laughs and stories with a handful of guys that I fish with regularly. These guys are extremely active anglers and we just enjoy exchanging conversation with out the hassle of “disturbers†(as bbr ironically stated), flamers, lurkers, trolls, board politics and your run of the mill lunatics.
I’m not looking to exclude anyone from anything. I just like to keep it small and personable. I think guys are taking this personal or something. I’ve received a few emails from guys I have never met or fished with that have expressed their disappointment with me for having a closed site and go into detail why they feel that way. lol I think everyone is reading into things too much. There’s 100’s of message boards out there to participate on…or read as this the case with most.
Whenever a discussion is brought to my attention about my site, it seems to have a negative tone to it and someone is always disappointed. Why do complete strangers seem to think they should have the right to have access to my private affairs?
Nothing has changed for those that actively give here on FH. It’s those that come here to take that are feeling the void from a few missing contributors. FH is a great place with over 2000 members. Think how even better it would be if those 2000 members openly participated, respected one another and left the bs off the board.
All the best folks. There’s more important things in our lives to ponder over…. like how to hook into those big fish that are out there waiting for us to catch em!
See ya’s on the water!
Warmest Regards,
Markus

i think some people are upset at the loss of quality reports they are missing...
but what those people dont realize, there is tons of crap that goes along with making constant reports....
whether its a simple rude comment at the local tackle shop, blaming you for the increase of fishing pressure, or something that goes a lot further...
i for one, am glad that there is a place for people to feel safe reporting their outings....its amazing, trout fisherman are mentioning WHERE they are catching, and aren't blocking out the backgrounds....
there will always be a place for public message boards, but the need for private ones also exist.

This IS a great site, for many.
The site is no longer what I once enjoyed. Truthfully Markus was one of the very good reasons I have hung out here for a long time, there are many other contributors which kept me very interested. To name only a few - RJ, John, Big-O, Eye-Tracker, M.T, MuskiMagnet, Topwater, Nighttroller, Big Frickin Joe, Bacon, MCQ, Richard Collin... and countless others... did not always agree but there was generally an air of respect.
Fish-Hawk and Bobber are among those which made this site very interesting in the early days, their reports were second to none. These guys even let me in their boat many times, each was great fun. These are solid anglers who love to share.
On Oct 3, 2002 I signed up with a simple question... looking for shore spots in Eastern Ottawa" An old calling to fish had come back to me. I got lots of feedback, went out, bought a rig and had my first pike in 15 years that afternoon. I was hooked and have spent countless hours online here since. I have been fortunate to have 4 adventure weekends with the gang here.
Charities have benefitted and so many guys brought back to fishing, that can't be a bad thing.
I have met no fewer than 20 guys who I would call good friends, I am by nature a loner and for me, that says something about the quality of most people around here.
At some point, the critical mass (for my purposes) struck and the village became a city. Along with this growth came the vagrants that you find in every city. I fought them but the fact is, god this is far too idealistic for a message board, the innocence was gone. I found myself spending more time defending the village than enjoying the city. The time where you could proudly proclaim how BS free the board was was gone.
Too many jerks, too many childish arguments, too mush BS.
Not enough of the stuff which kept me interested
Not enough energy left to fight...
Why am I posting this? mostly for me....
be well.

Several things can happen for a person not to post....they may have found another board that has peaked their interest...things have changed in their personal lives that don't allow them to spend as much time posting...family commitments...etc...Internet boards go through phases from what I've seen over the many years. Members cycle through. It's inevitable. You will cross paths with many people on a board....some will become close friends...and others will be simply a blip on the radar..As was mentioned earlier...it just leaves room for others to post , and the opportunity to meet more people with the same interests. I'm sure I'll see alot of new faces at the RUMBLE 06 this year...and a few familiar old ones too....![]()

Will you be posting on FH Mikey when the rumble is or...

I'll ditto what Jazz said. Being a great lakes guy from SW ontario the great lakes forum is what hooked me here. I've made a lot of good friends here and I still visit when I can
Greymist and I have enjoyed some great get togethers and have driven 5 and 6 hrs to attend them
Like others I visit other boards, ones that have info for areas closer to me, seeing ice and fish at Petrie is great but I'm in Georgetown
Wish someone would pick up the ball on the Virtual Derby that would help to lift some spirits

Assuming FH allows me to post it here jig...the RUMBLE in Rockland 06 "Showdown on the Ottawa" will be definately posted here. There seems to be alot of interest from here. The RUMBLE was a huge success last year because of the people from this board who attended...volunteered to help out, and made it what it was...a day on the water with a bunch of buddies who love to fish. I'm hoping we can make an even bigger success this year. Come spring and summer....I plan on a few trips onto Ontario waters this yearjig head wrote:Mikey wrote: I'm sure I'll see alot of new faces at the RUMBLE 06 this year...and a few familiar old ones too....![]()
