What's Your Favorite Pike Lure In Spring?

Wow, I haven't even heard of some of these lures, I definately have some research to do! I have had good luck with Husky Jerks, silver spoons and Mepps Comet Minnow. Last yr at Ganny did well with my Cabela's baby pike lure and silver plastic minnows. Got alot of good info here, thanks everyone, I've got to keep up my killer rep! Joe.

Mepps musky Killer, silver blade, red bucktail. Spent May-Sept. in Saskatchewan last year.....7/8 oz Storm chartreuse wildeye shad....couldn't keep 'em off the hook! Haven't had a chance to try em back home yet.

How did you fish those Storm shads? I bought a pack last summer but wasn't exactly sure if I should be jigging them or slow retrieving them, etc. Any tips????

Wolfe, cast em out let them sink to bottom on a slack line. Once it hits bottom, point your rod at the bait, and give a couple of quick cranks, let it sink back to bottom....repeat. When it gets close to the boat RIP it towards the surface.

Try not to use your rod to "jig" it, if a fish hits with your rod pointed up you will likely never get a hook into them.

Hi Relic...thanks for the detailed info. I knew I was doing something wrong. I was doing exactly what you said NOT to do. Didn't feel right.

I've heard so many positives about fishing these baits for pike that I knew it had to be me when I wasn't getting any reaction from the toothies.

1st time poster here.

I only fish for pike in the Thousand Islands area in late May. With all the bullhead that spawn up there at that time, do any of you guys use a bulldawg or Salmo Bullhead crankbait?

If not...why not?

Hi guys, sorry I took so long to get back. I fish them almost exactly the same as relic pointed out....the retrieve, drop, retrieve, drop drives 'em crazy! Bad thing is that they hit 'em so hard, you burn through a pack in no time!

spring pike love mepps cyclops...

if you get sluggish fish, a rapala retrieved slow just under the surface is perfect...

and -- the often mentioned silver minnow will work great with a trailer grub...

but the best of all is on the first hotter days when you can get them in emerging weeds on buzzbaits...

I fish all the shallow bays around Grindstone and Wellsley Islands, concentrating most of my time in Eel Bay. I made the trip 2 years ago in mid-May. Two full days of fishing led to only one smallie. Last year my buddy and I went the 3rd week in May, much better success over 3 days with about 15 pike, bunch of smallies and perch, plus one huge carp. The water temp each time was 45-48 degrees. I read that pike become more active as the temp approaches 50 degrees.

Most of my success last year was on a gold Williams Wabler and an Rapala XRap (perch). The muskie guys in the Midwest swear by these Bulldawg lures and since I see a ton of bullheads spawning while pike fishing in May I thought I'd give them a try.

JSDX-The Pike at Ganny love my silver-blue Cyclops, I use the retrive and pause method and have like an 80% catch record when I use it! I fish it in a weed bed with about 6 feet of water. Many times they slam it about 10 feet from the boat!

Last year had more success with silver plastic minnow, I use Storm. Had good luck with my Cabela's baby pike lure also.

Handyman-Spent my youth in those spots, caught many a Pike and Bass there. We were there July 4th weekend mostly when the water was nice and warm. My uncle got a record Musky not to far from there. Good huntin, Joe.

I like getting and trying new lures and I seem to have heard of thesee before but can't say I have ver seen one.
