Find the exact spot im looking for, same area I had my laker on the week before and we start pounding and jiggin away! Fish show up on the vex almost right away...... one of todays lessons was you could get a laker to come off bottom and follow your bait for up to 20ft, but you could not get them to hit! So we keep at it, and after a few missed (and extremely soft hits I might add,) I got a whallop..... Here we go, set the hook...............Dang nab it I missed it... Todays second story of the day.... when you miss a hungry laker, your budd beside you will probably get it..... The fight is on!!!!
Johns rod is buckling and line is peeling and this goes on for a solid 5mins.... Quote of the day was John saying "I dont think its that big" Finally I see some bubbles coming up in the hole and I new we were close, I see the head under the ice and my word was it a big head..... made me kinda want to cut the line cause it dwarfed my laker from the previous outing. John slides the head through the hole, I reach down and grab a beauty for him! His first laker! What a dandy, and the colors on this fish were amazing! Prettiest laker I have ever seen!
So after a few more hours of nothing we decide to go hit the perch hole.... no jumbos today but all the dinks you could handle so we decided to take our chance and go hit the laker hole again.... Within the first 20mins I see a nice red bar, so I come up to it and whammo, fish on!!!!!! Fish makes three beautiful bulldoggin runs, and pop, she's off! Why did she go pop you ask, well ask Dave Genz!! His rods are amazing, but his reels are useless. The drag is major garpoo.... on the 4th run drag no longer was coming freely and pop!
So another hour passes, and I feel another slight tap, but a miss, and then look over at John once again reeling in another laker but this one popped off for him as well!
So all in all, missed a lot of light hits, went 1/3 on lakers today, and John was one happy man!
Heres the beauty!
