JUDGEMENT DAY FOR FISH-HAWK PEOPLE BY ANOTHER BOARD

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Simply incredible... nice to know we're semi decent folk for baiters. Sheesh, I've never used anything but artificials my whole life, not that anything is wrong with a bit of bait though.

Seems Fishboy is a moderator on that site, its nice to see we are being represented so well. I'll reserve any further comments to myself for now.

Other than.....

I'm highly upset about the treatment of the 3 said boxes of Kraft Dinner.

I feel it unfair to artificially reproduce the likeness of flies, without their prior consent.

Great job fellas!

Post by pchilli1 »

An appropriate quote for these fellas would be “jealously and envy will get you no where!”. These fellas, (while surly all great people) are likely the same ones that cringe at the sight of a cow or pig slaughtered but have no problem prancing into their local butcher and requesting two 16oz t-bone steaks or large pork chops.

When you break it all down, each one of those fish probably cost you $10 in time, equipment, gas and patience! Throwing one away would be like burning a $10 bill.

You were within you legal limit, therefore, there is no problem.

Good job!

Hello fellow Fish-Hawkers, I show my face to take what lumps you feel you need to share with me. [cowers in fear] :)

I'd like to apologize for doing something that seems underhanded or secretive, I wasn't out to just flame some people or make anyone look bad.

I'm not from the same region as many of you. I'm in the middle of a sprawling metropolis where I don't have the luxury of finding 50 keeper trout in one outing, because there's just too much pressure for everyone to do that.

In my neck of the woods this past summer, it was adviseable not to fish rivers for trout at all because the waters were too warm, the fish were low on oxygen, and even releasing them may still lead to fatility. These same rivers are getting new residential developments put on their banks, of course adding to the issues our fish face.

Over the years I've become more involved in conservation, and through that have realized things I never knew about what plagues GTA waters.

Through volunteering to try to help preserve and protect some of the GTA waters in question, I've undergone an attitude shift where I am now deeply and rightfully concerned that later in life, my grandkids won't have much to fish for here other than Gobies and Ruffe. As a result, I now fish with a feeling of responsibility, the responsibility being to leave the place how I found it (or better), and also to share what I know with new fisherpeople. I release all my fish, though I don't expect others to.

Many of the folks here at Fishkawk on the other hand, have much different waters at your disposal, waters that aren't pounded daily, that perhaps aren't littered with boatloads of garbage, and that are definitely not as overpressured as the few rivers I have close to me.

For the most part, both here and at Hipwader, nearly everyone seems to have been able to keep this discussion and difference of opinions civil, which is cool. Anyone who can't, well tough, you're entitled to your opinion too.

The bottom line is, the people who caught the fish were not at fault in any way, nor did I ever claim they were, for keeping their limit of fish. Sorry if I rubbed you guys the wrong way. I also hadn't realized that such aggressively stocked places existed, because they sure don't in my back yard, unless I go to a trout farm.

In the end, I haven't taken home a single trout from [wild] Ontario waters in my entire 15+ years of fishing. Can you blame me for getting my stomach turned over seeing 50 of them at once? I didn't want to spoil all the backpatting taking place here by posting this non-conformist 2 cents, so I took my opinion elsewhere to have a discussion with like-minded people, no insult intended whatsoever.

Sorry for any rift caused, just a difference in regions, resources, and attitudes, but we're all fisherman in the end, no?

Tight lines.

Hey,

No need to "appologize" on my behalf... I didn't feel personally targeted, as I know what I did was fine, and I'll sleep on both ears tonight.

What offended me with your post was

A) The title that you chose to use for your post, to me is offensive.
B) Your lack of facts that you posted along with the picture, had you taken 2 minutes to read ALL the post you would have garnered all of the information to make an educated post.

I'll pm you some more "facts"...

Thanks,
And no hard feelings with me...

Hey Urban Angler,

I also posted on the other site :)

I'm too stressed at work to get stressed ove fish :)

All in all we paid for a limit of fish. I just don't like being a topic of flaming without me knowing. If I know about it then it's all good.

We C&R 99% of the time but pay for a limit of trout :!:

these T.O. people are very quick to judge. These are the same guys that when i've been down for the spring run of Steelhead that strip the spawn out of these fish and then throw back the dead fish. Or they Drag them around on a stringer for the day.

O well takes all types to make up this world :?

God Bless you all !

Nothing like broad sweeping generalizations to label an entire population, eh? Why don't you share your opinions on race while you're at it?

I fish a lot of lake O tribs and it's been many many years since i've killed a lake O fish.......even stopped useing roe!!! Considering the population of the GTA and how fragil the trout fishery is there, I know how you feel!!! :? One thing you have to understand is that Quebec is blessed with prolly the best brookie fishery in the world. Believe it or not Brook trout in Quebec are almost as comon as perch in Ontario!!! With limits as high as 20 in some places and 10 in most places, Quebec is the place to go if you want to eat some trout. If all those trout came from a little lake in Ontario or a tiny stream I would feel differantly. :? I'm not saying that everyone should go out and bring home a bucket full of trout but when in Rome.........I have to ask if that were a bucket of perch would it have recieved the same kind of responses???

That's right Kpin, I am a moderator on Hipwader. com. It's pleasure to perform that function (well...most of the time, as you can imagine). You sometimes have to accept opinions that conflict with your own as long as they are not intentionally insulting or derogatory.

I disagree with some of the comments made on Hipwader.com, but as moderator I can't delete them for that reason. Sometimes it tries your ability to remain objective. I'm sure the moderators of this site understand all too well what I'm talking about.

The post that has everyone's knickers in a twist here at F-H generated only one page of posts on Hipwader.com including an apology from Urbanangler. My post in response to it was intended as support for F-H and its members. Some of you, like Kodiak, were dissatisfied with it and that's life. Ya can't please everyone!

Anyway, getting into arguments with other boards is kind of like the Toronto Maple Leafs....pointless!
Time's fun when you're having flies.
