Callendar Bay Fishing this past weekend....

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Callendar Bay Fishing this past weekend....

Post by Sherriff »

Well, headed up early Friday morning to Rob Hyatt's place. Made a stop at Bass Pro to load up on some gear and off we went.

Arrived and met Rob, really great guy. Within about 1/2 hour we were on the ice and Mason05 was into his first walleye. He was just setting up the tip-ups and lowered the line down and got this guy on. Was a tiny bit into the slot so after a pic, released back down the hole.

We had figured that after just starting out that we were going to be into lots of walleye but only managed 2 more for the day. Keepers.

Here is our group shot after getting set up.

My buddy Todd and I made a deal to sit outside in the sun late Sat. afternoon and could not go back into the hut until we A. caught a fish or B. finished this 12 of Corona and the 6 other beers we had outside. Well, we made it into the hut a about 7:00pm without a fish. But we felt pretty good. Man it was cold, the beers were freezing up as fast as we could drink them. Nice and slushy.

My buddy Mason was a little over anxious looking after the tip-ups and would sprint over if he saw the slightest move. So, while drinking beer and doing nothing I hooked up a 40 foot length of Vanish to one of the tip-ups and went back and sat down. Gave her a shake every few minutes just to laugh as Mason would come bolting out of the hut. I had a blast watching him but after he saw the line he was not amused!

Here is a shot of the sun going down Sat. evening.

Had a Ministry guy drop by to check lines and licenses. Good to see them doing their best to keep people from breaking the rules.

Here is a picture of our poker game. Mason looks intoxicated but it did not stop him from cleaning up on the game.

Here is our little fish fry Sat. night. A little blurry but I was unable to focus on much that night.

Overall, we managed 3 walleye, 1 perch, 1 pike, 1 mud puppy, lost a white fish at the hole, and lost countless walleye. We had trouble setting the hook and the bite was very soft and if you missed it, it was gone...

The bite was better on the tip-ups over jigging and just minnows with a hook and sinker worked best.

Rob and his crew were great, huts were amazing and they were always there for you if you needed bait or water.

Great trip with a great bunch of guys.

Hey Donsans, ya it was very similar to the SSFC days. I miss them sometimes. Will have to hook up in 2006 for sure. Even just for a night of shooting the crap over too many beers. Fishing would be a bonus though....
