Info On Kennebec Lake?

Just curious if anyone has fished Kennebec Lake and what their impression of it is? I had saved some (cottage rental) information and was looking through it recently and wondered about this lake. It's 19 miles long and I know it's got walleye and pike.

The cottages I have info on are Springwood Cottages. If anyone has any experience with their accommodations, or knows someone who has been there, I'd be interested in hearing about it.

Also, a "guesstimate" as to how far it might be from the Thousand Islands Bridge crossing...?

Wolfe, it’s a beautiful lake, we had vacationed there for many years. At one point a teacher from my daughters high school owned the resort, but has since sold it.
We had cottage # 7 for many years … a 2 bedroom … 2 piece bathroom, showers were shared.(shower house) by the store.
I found they were getting a little too expensive for what they offered, and now that we have our “ole hound” they don’t take pets, we have not gone back.
Fishing for walleye I found was never that good, but had seen pictures of some good sized one landed, Pike , I had a battle one year that pulled me in a row boat for quite a while before loosing it at the boat, I’m sure 15 + , remember that like it was yesterday.
Now with all that said ……. You like SMALLIE fishn’ AWSOME.
The lake is great, and the beach for your kids is perfect.
We haven’t been back for about 5 years but I’m sure its still a nice place .

Hi Wolfe. Kennebec Lake is a long, but very narrow lake. Even though it is a thin lake, it can get pretty windy. For the most part, the shoreline is quite straight, but you can fish the river too. The lake is fairly close to Rt. 7 , with the small town of Arden to the South, and Big Gull Lake not far to the North. Fish species include both largemouth and smallmouth, pike, and some walleye. In my opinion, there are far more interesting lakes than Kennebec within easy driving distance. Good luck in whatever you do.

Kennebec is one of my favorite lakes in that region, and is approximately 2 hours from the thousand island bridge. I stayed at Springwood Cottages, the accomodations are pretty decent and is centrally located on the lake, which is about 11 miles long. I stayed in those cottages for about 5 years, and then switched to Crotch lake because the accomodations there are the best I have seen in the region. However, I dont spend much time fishing there because there are so many good lakes in close proximity.

The one end of the lake is pretty shallow and weedy, whereas the other is fairly deep. The fishing there at times can be stellar, with the occasional larger fish mixed in with numerous smaller ones. There is so much structure in the lake you can find fish almost anywhere. I mainly fish for bass and pike, but the panfish also bite very well with minnows or worms. I have never caught a walleye in Kennebec, but didn't put any time trying. The one problem with Kennebec is that it is fairly long and narrow without a lot of coves, so if the wind is blowing in the right direction it can be pretty rough. I would still highly recommend going to fish that lake, it has always produced very good results for me. Other lakes in that area I would also recommend are Big Gull and Stump. I would be happy to answer other questions you may have regarding Kennebec or other lakes in the area.

I rented a private cottage on Kennebec in 2004 for a week. I spent a fair amount of time fishing but it was with my kids who were quite little. It is a panfish haven, non stop action. I only spent about 4 hours of serious fishing time and managed a decent pike and a 3 lb smallie for those efforts.

Springwood cottages looked ok to me, pretty standard rental fare.

I have been fishing on Kennebec since I was 3 (32 years ago).Have seen the lake go from a very private fishing hot spot to a alright fishing and very accesable summer vacation favorite.Fishing can be good at times for bass in the 1-2 pound range and it is loaded with lots of small snot-rocket pike.There still is some monster pike but they are rare.Largest pike i have caught 14 pounds, largest bass-4.5 pounds,all walleye caught in 32 years- 1 three pounder,mudcat-hundreds (best eating fish in the lake),bluegill-thousands(some in the 9 inch range)and about a dozen eels.Kennebec is a beautifull lake.It is only 8 miles long not 19.The north side is dominated by a high granite ridge for about 5 miles from the west end. The west end is shallow and weedy . That is the end were i fish the most.I am heading up there Thursday to do some icefishing and visit with a long time family friend that lives on the lake .We ice fish there once a year for some pike and bluegill.I caught 5 nice pike icefishing there last year.If you want anymore info you can pm me.
