A different type of fishing that has seen rewards been reaped by many. This forum allows us to learn more about Float and Fly fishing from those who have made it their number 1 way to fish.
Wow.. thanks for all the great help guys.. Maybe I will go this weekend and get my rod/reel with all the suggestions, I should be able to get into something..
Then.. if anyone would like to go fly fishing , I would join ya
checked out Green Drake today at lunch. They have a 5wt Orvis (905-4) 4 piece unit for $200.. it includes reel, line and leader.. all that is missing is some flies..
It looked ok.. just wanted to get peoples inputs..
Just to comparison shop you might want to check out Sports Action as well. They have some good starter kits as well. Also inquire into what the warranties are on the rods as this might sway your purchase decision.
Either way I'm sure you will have a blast with whatever package you decide to pick up.
As for flies, just let us know what species you're targeting, where you think you're going to be fishing and I'm sure you can get some suggestions for a good starter fly box.

Thanks Todd. I will check out Sports Action.. maybe after work
I will be targetting brookies and rainbows in the Bogie area. I may also try to catch some panfish, perch in the Abitibi area when I go up there with my gf..
The Orvis kit is pretty good since it is a 4-piece. Sports Action also has 4-piece rods at the same price point.
There are 2 advantages with 4-piece rods:
1) storage is easier
2) partablility
If you opt for a 4-piece rod, you must check the rod occasionally as you use it. The pieces tend to loosen a bit and you could see your tip section sinking to the bottom! (I know first-hand how that feels )
Really now.....
I can't believe you would even suggest a $3000US bamboo rod for a first time flyfisher gimmie a break what are you trying to do scare him away from flyfishing
He had his selection narrowed down to the Orvis 905-4 Sreamside starter kit or the Okuma 905-2 Infusion starter kit. My guess is he'll be untangling wind knots by the weekend!

The other day while we were at a trout lake I passed Akira my fly rod and I think he liked it Although the rod he was useing was a very fast action rod I think he 's got the idea By summers end he'll be completly converted to the dark side
