North Channel / Amherst Island - Apr 29 Report

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

North Channel / Amherst Island - Apr 29 Report

Post by Superdad »

Laker John and I picked up the boat at Bayview Resort and headed for Bath and Finkle Park launch ramp. Boat in the water at 0900.

Fired her up - runs like a top after the spring tuneup. Headed for the north shore of Amherst Is to troll the shallows.

Fish on- yells Laker and pulls the board in and out comes the net - whoa.... mr sm bass - about 3.5 lbs in 6 feet of water on a salmon/trout spoon. We had only fished for 20 mins. Could be good!!!

Trolled westward to the end of Amherst Is and round the channel markers and thru Wemps Bay over to Grape Is. Fished til 1330 and took a break floated with the breeze and watched the bottom for fish.

We saw a couple of bass right on the bottom and another fish we couldn't identify. We were drfiting in 25 feet of water and could make pebbles and clam shells on the bottom.

The water was a way TOO clear. We fished Wemps Bay from 1600 -1745 and motored over to the Generating station. Trolled back to Finkles' Park and put the boat on the trailer at 2015. That's a long day.

So we didn't find the trout or the salmon, BUT we did see some new water and I can appreciate the drive along RTE 133 by the cement plant and the Generating station.

We were very pleased with the boat and the kicker and everything is set for Saturday AM.

We'll be there and We'll post the results from Bayview Sat & Sun after the days fishing.

Thanks for the update Superdad. The clear water is very deceiving, kinda' makes you keep an eye on your sonar. If the honey do list isn't to long Saturay, perhaps we'll meet on the water.
