I know this post is a little late... But it was such a great night.
Early last week, my buddy and I decided that we couldn't wait for fishing season to start so we decided to try and figure out how people fish crappie.
I'm originally a salmon/steelhead fisherman from up north, so slip bobbers seemed to be the only way to launch small teardrops with a tiny little piece of worm. (like 1cm long).
We started at a little weeded in creek off the Ottawa around 6:00pm. We didn't know how deep the water was. Since we figured it at 4ft in the middle, we only let out about 1.5ft of line and fished the edges. My buddy's first cast, the bobber wouldn't stand up ( too shallow we thought) untill it started moving. He set the hook into a 5lb channel cat. I was stunned, we where using the smallest teardrops they make. So I hurried up and casted... 7lb cat!!
In an hour and a half(maybe two hours) we went through a dozen worms. (only using a cm of the worm at a time) We caught 36 cats between 4lbs and 8.5lbs!!
We didn't leave because the bite stopped, we left because we ran out of worms. All around, one of the most exciting fishing days of my life.
Enjoy,
