Fishing Lac Baskatong this weekend

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Fishing Lac Baskatong this weekend

Post by mob77 »

Just wondering if anyone has ever (or recently) fished lac Baskatong, which is on the Quebec side north towards Maniwaki.

Myself and a few friends are heading up there this weekend to do some camping/fishing and I was wondering if anyone had any advice and/or tips about fishing this particular lake.

Oh .... and we have a boat and motor reserved, so we'll be doing some cruising around the lake.

Any and all advice appreciated!

Cheers

I don't have much to add, but I just wanted to clarify for my own sake - this is "lac" Baskatong and not "Reservoir"? I fished the reservoir many years ago and can tell you that we caught one pike the entire week (well, 5 days) we were there!

Good Luck!

Hey Mob77, all the info I pm'd you is for Reservoir Baskatong. Tall Paul did you post before going to the Baskatong for help??? Never been there and not come back with limits!! We went at different times of the summerand we always had a contest for the biggest walleye, never seen it under 7 lbs highest being 12.5 lbs.

I believe that it is indeed the resevoir that we are fishing. Lets hope that we have better luck than you guys did!

I'll let you know next week how eventful (or uneventful) the fishing was!

We were there in August... 15+ years ago... 18 or 19 years ago actually.

We didn't really fish much for walleye (none of us really had any idea as to how) so we fished for pike and apparently a lot of people were having a tough time with pike that week. In any case, I chalk it up to not knowing where to go, and having no clue on how to find fish and how to catch them when we did find them.
I am sure you'll have better luck than we did... we made it real easy for you not to!!

cheers,

Well, I can tell you after being conviced by the gang at work who have been going up there for about 25 years that I spent a lot of money on cabin, gas, boat & motor rental, food, beverages, licenses, Zeck fees, bait and after catching next to nothing, I will not be returning. It became apparent that "the gang" goes up more for the bonding away from the wives than for catching fish. Dont get me wrong, I love sitting in a boat wetting a line as much as the next guy, but, I expect to catch something after all the effort and cash we put in. The guys in my cabin and myself fished it hard and were nearly skunked. But, if you intend on going up anyway, most of the group were trolling with rapalas. Good luck.
