Anna Lake and the stocking list

Post by bobfly »

I always like to fish at least a couple of new lakes each year and this year after receiving the stocking list from Pembroke (not online this year, call 613-732-3661 and they will mail it to you), I noticed Anna Lake has been stocked for the last three years with browns and for good measure, they added an addtional 2000 fall fingerlings last year. The only problem as another fisher pointed out, there is no public access but then MNR cannot, I believe, stock a lake without public access.

So I ventured out with my trusty old 4x4 to go down any alley I can find. After being turned back by several signs, I finally found a place and after a conversation with an elderly couple, me in my float tube and them on their balcony, I got a lot of information. It seems my launching spot is on Crown land afterall but before I let anybody in on it, I'm going to check with Land Registry. The couple said that everything is in the lake: pike, bass, rock bass (no kidding), perch, etc. They had "heard" that a brown had been caught last year. Even though there are 15 cabins and trailers on the lake there was only one other canoe fishing. The lake is clear and signs everywhere: "no motors", as several take their drinking water from the lake. As I said in an earlier post, its going to take the private individuals who control lakes to do anythng at all.

Why am I naming this lake? Well, this one is right on the highway between Centennial Lake and Black Donald Lake and no, you can't launch where it almost touches the highway at least not according to the couple on the balcony.

As for fishing, I must have landed 50 rock bass. The best producer was a bright orange Blood Maribou Leech and next a Gold-ribbed Hare's Ear (Fur nymph). Couldn't keep them off. Each cast produced a hit. I did get one hit with a heavily weighted Muddler more in the middle of the lake.

My next challenge is to find a way to Oriole Lake. I've tried twice already but I'll wait awhile for things to dry out.
