Day 1: Post thunderstorms and fish weren't active. Pike were in the backbays but would only follow a bait. Walleye bite was slow.
Day 2: Sunny and no wind (huh?!).. the pike had left the bays and moved out where the walleye were. We did much better in the later half of the day once the wind picked up a little and the walleye bite turned on.
Day 3: Sunny and med wind. This was a day that solidified some of the claims people had made about how good walleye fishing could be in that area. Double headers were common and we brought alot of fish to the boat. Tons of fun!
Morning Day 4: Sunny and med wind. Another good couple of hours. Once you found a school of walleye the action was great.
For walleye, if the wind was low we found that anchoring over a drop off and presenting leeches veritically worked really well. Using floats with a leech, although less productive at times, was fun to. When the wind was stronger, drifting the boat and dragging different colored jigs just off bottom was the ticket. Pike were hitting the leeches, the jigs and red devils. There were a number of fish caught that had the baits we had lost or broke off moments earlier, stuck in their mouths.
Biggest fish was a 10lb pike and a 4lb walleye. The majority of pike were 2-3lbs and walleye were 1-2lbs.
Coming back to civilization was really tough. I definately could have stayed longer!
