Frogs
If you aren't fishing frogs in the slop, you are missing out.
I use a few different types.
Soft Plastic frogs like the Zoom Horny Toad are execellent to cover water quickly. Rig them with a 5/0 wide gap hook and a hitchhiker. I will go through a pile of them in a tournament, but they catch big fish. Don't buy just one pack. It doesn't take long to go through five of them.
Second, by a scum frog or 10. Fish them slow and wait for explosion!

This past week, the buzz bait has been a riot. Drives the pike absolutely nuts. I love it when they go airborn, often right over the buzz bait, missing it entirely but quickly follow up with more hits.
Once bass opens on the Ottawa, the Zara Spook is golden for a couple of weeks but then stops working until September.

yellow / black jitterbug often works for me at night; bass and the ole' mighty pike! also the zara spook seems to be a crowd favourite! .. and yes sir "matt massey" the slop is the best during those "too hot to fish days" I get my best luck by tossing a rat out to get some attention (usually the fish cant hit it) then toss out a purple texes rigged 7" worm to finish off the job!

I have found the wed demon located here
http://www.greatlures.com/snag/products/top.htm to be really dead ly on bass. It is weighted really good so it flies when you cast it and can be thrown in heavy weed beds.

Smithwick's Devil Horse.....
My best experience was one with an orange bottom and green top.
Also use one with a "Perch" type colouring.
Cast it out just beyond the weeds, wait for the ripples in the water to settle then jerk it in random patterns....
When the Pike hits, its amazing.
Also works great with Bass but you should remove the leader for better action. Warning...if the Pike hits it without the leader kiss this one goodbye.
Thanks to my two "guru's" of fishing, D-mo and FatRap...we've experienced many hits with the Devil Horse.
