Anyone else pumped for bass opener?

I can't wait. I got all my gear ready. I'll probably stick close to home and hit the rideau for the day. What are everyone elses plans?

Ottawa River, Rideau River, Mississippi River, Murphy's Point, Silver Lake, Sharbot Lake, Charleston Lake...........

Unfortunately the Ottawa doesn't open until June 30th, so it's not even on my list yet.

Well Bass opens on the last Sat. in june down here (South eastern ont) and my young ins and I went out last night to pick up a new reel and a couple of new luers for this Sat. We're all pumped gonna hit Balsam bright and early and stay for the day. Hope fully will have the camera for some Pics on this trip will let you all know how it goes.

hmmm, Bass on the fly. I bet that would be fantastic. I haven't fly fished since I left Nova Scotia in 1993. Perhaps I'll have to give it a go again. I still don't know where I'm heading,.....so many choices....so little time left to decide.

Bobber,

Try Scully Lake for bass. Most peope go to Scully for the speckled trout (which never take my flies!!!!!), but I have caught some really nice sized bass there on the fly. Limestone also has some really decent largemouths. Surface poppers are dynamite in both lakes.

I've said it once and I'll say it again: You haven't really caught bass until you've done it on the fly!

I'm really exited..heading to the grand river tommororw to see how a competiiton is and meet the coaches for the team. Gonna still do a bit of fishing hopefully!

Saturday going to black lake for the evening. I'm exited, although bass opening weekend is never too good for me

I do much better on the hottest days in july and august, but I'm hoping to improve.

If you lile lots of action in lieu of the size of fish, give the stretches of rapids on the Jock R. a try. Nothing better than non-stop topwater action. Break out your lightweigth gear, a small panfish popper (#10-12) and enjoy! You'll be surprised as to how many bass populate those stretches of water that's only knee deep.

Just got back from fishing the rideau for a couple hours. Caught tons of fish. Landed two "big" fish, the biggest being 18" the other was probably around 16". Lost another one that was about 18". I had seen him when I caught the first 18" fish, he was chasing after him while it was fighting it. Hooked into him a couple minutes after releasing the first big fish. Most succesful fly was by far a size 6 crayfish pattern, thats what i caught all my biggest fish on. Second best fly was a white bunny leeche. All fish were nice and fat, even the little guys. Must have been gorging themselves on mayflies and caddis, which where abundant. Hex's seemed to be coming off, found a bunch of floating shucks in the water.

Opening weekend on one my favorite stretches of the Mississippi R. was very rewarding. Even though the water level was somewhat on the high side, we none the less managed to catch countless SM, rock bass and fallfish (all during mid-day since we couldn't get out earlier or stay later.) The best SM of the day was easily 16" and we had at least a dozen fall fish in the 12" range. I'll post the pics when I manage to get them downloaded.
