Most of you may not like MNR for what they may or may not have been doing but we may still have a chance to help out our fishery in the Pembroke district. The biologist, Kirby Punt, is requesting you send supporting emails to him at kirby.punt@mnr.gov.on.ca or call him at 613-732-3661 for more info. They are proposing to have the trout season open all year and he would like the seasons maintained as they are and extend that restriction to Lake Trout. Here is a portion of my email which you could use as a basis for your own:
"Dear MNR and to whom it may concern,
As an active fisherman in the Calabogie and Renfrew area, I strongly support the proposal to maintain the fishing season from January 1st to September 30th for those species natural or sustainable to these areas such as Brook Trout, Brown Trout and Lake Trout. In order to maintain a quality fishery, I oppose opening these species to fishing all year round. Rainbow Trout and Splake could remain open all year round as they are presently."
Most of us missed out on the opportunity to comment on these changes. Here is an opportunity to make up for it but you have to do it this weekend or early next week as staff are preparing to make their final presentations on the subject before an actual decision is made and he would appreciate some backup from fishermen.
