Fishing eastern lake Ontario

Good afternoon!
I am new to fish-hawk and would like to congratulate you on the nice work!

I have a question about fishing eastern lake Ontario!

I am from Ottawa and I have a 17 feet deep "Vâ€ 60 horse With a GPS. and was wondering if it sufficient and safe enough for me to take this out near Kingston.

If you have any advice for me, on locations where to try first I would appreciate it.

Plenty big..I have a 16.5 witha 50.. 4 stroke and I am on the great lakes all the time. If you want salmon head down to port hope..its been hot down there and worth the drive. Other wise you should have no problem fishing with a boat that size. If the water is too rough for that size of boat hen the fish wont be doing much either!

Cast-a-way,
I fish Lake Ontario out toward Timber, False Duck and Main Duck Islands in my 16ft DeepV with a 92" beam. I target walleye, but all the boats in the area are fishing for Salmon, Lakers and Rainbow. Main Ducks is the best bet for salmon, just follow the charter boats around until you figure out the area. The eastern end of the lake gets rough quickly as the prevailing west wind waves build the length of the lake from St. Catharines. I would make sure you have a VHF as the run out is approximately 14 to 18 miles depending on where you launch. Another good location in the Eastern end of Lake Ontario is Wellington area with Scotch Bonnet Shoal and Salmon Point producing Salmon, bows and lakers.

If you do venture out try to stay in contact with a boat that has weather reports and radar if bad weather hits fast or use a buddy system with other boats on the water.

Port Hope is safe as you never venture to far from shore and lots of boats in the area to assist in-case of an emergency.

Always monitor channel 16 and use it to hale another vessel then move to a pleasure boat working channel like 06 or 69.

You should be plenty safe out on Lake Ontario with your boat.
Just have extra safety equipment just in case.(trolling motor-paddles

,loud horn,spare spark plugs,extra batteries, and a vhf radio for sure). I always try to have a full tank of gas as well.
Plan your trip a day ahead and make sure the wind and weather will be on your side.

If it is any help, we usually fish about 1 mile out in 90 to 100 feet of water.
However, we are also putting in at Frenchmanâ€™s bay or Whitby Harbour

Ok I have planned a trip
We will be leaving Rideau Acres Campground and heading to the kingston harbour !

Anybody now what I can expect to catch If I fish at the opening of
Lake O and any spots/tips I should try ??

If you're planning on fishing Ontario, you might be best to launch from Collins Bay, it's closer to the lake. You will get out faster than a boat ride from Kingston (union st launch ramp???)

The areas that Eye Tracker was talking about are easier accessed from Finkles Park in Bath.

Launching in Kingston makes a LONG ride in a 16.5' and IF the wind picks up - as it is want to do in the afternoons, could be a LONG and rough ride back to launch ramp.

You don't want a long ride back with BIG waves.

PLay safe - it's BIG water.

If your looking for Bass, Large and Small, Pike or Walleye, I can give you some good suggestions. I know Kingston waters fairly well. I got a good spot for smallies with a boat launch about 30 seconds away. Gimme a shout back if you wanna know.
The catch?
you might have to bring me with you. haha.

We have been fishing from Port Whitby and found the fish between the 90 and 120 foot depths. Depending on the time of day.

I have a boat a little smaller than yours and head out when conditions are calm, ie early mornings.
The bite also seems to have moved to cut bait. Yesterday morning we boated one on spoons but in the evening we had 4 in the boat on cut bait.
