I would like to take a moment to publicly thank Fishboy and Mosquito for all thier help in my fly fishing adventure while I was up in Ontario for the past 3 weeks. I made it up to the Nipigon River and found out real fast that I was in over my head. Even with my equipment beefed up with a sinking end on the fly line and sinking tippet I was not prepered for that much current. Needless to say I didn't even get my fly stuff out. I did explore the river below the first dam above Lake Superior. I did use my normal gear with some spoons and lost 2 fish and the kid with me did land 2 nice Brooies and released them. In all it was a great trip and I did get hooked on Brook Trout fishing. I found some smaller streams and ponds and fished them and I'm happy to report my biggest Brookie was 15 1/2 inchs and he was released along with all the other ones I caught.
I will be coming back up there at the end of September and the first of October to do somemore fly fishing. The difference this time is I'll be better prepared. I have ordered a new Sage 4pc XP Fast Action 9 1/2' Rod and a Lamison Velocity 3.5 Reel to go with it. Set up with a classV sinking line and all the trimmings. I will also be going with a highly recomended guide from Thunder Bay by the name of Randy Beamish. While I'm still down home here I have already setup some classes with a casting instructor to learn how to properly cast that weighted line. My first class will be July 23rd and I'll let you know how it goes. Thank you both once again for turnning me into a Brook Trout fisherman.
