Having met Ian I hope he gets his gear back. For the guy that stole it, I hope he drops it off before Ian finds him. LOL$2,000 REWARD:
Recently someone popped the lock on my car and stole two fly rods with reels and lines. I was parked at the Garafax 2nd Line bridge on the Grand River. The rods and reels are marked and they are unique. If you have the stolen equipment you can drop it off at any of these stores with no questions asked:
Troutfitters, Fergus
First Choice Tackle, Guelph
Hook Line and Sinker, Guelph
The Stone Store, Guelph
Kingsway Sports, Guelph
Natural Sports, Kitchener
Angling Sports, London
Jay's Fly Shop, London
Grindstone Angling, Waterdown
If you know who has the stolen gear, and you want to collect $2,000 in cash, just let me know who has it. I am NOT going to press charges nor am I going to get the police involved. I am simply going to administer a large helping of Scottish retribution on the person, which will result in a life style modification for him. In other words, they will going to go to hospital for a rather long time. I am not joking and for the record there will be no remorse on my part. Now if you are one of those bleeding hearts who thinks that the chap needs a good talking to, or that he needs to light a few scented candles because he was taken way from his mothers teat too soon ... to you I say, "I don't give a rats derriere." So, just let me know who has the stolen equipment, prove to me that they have it and you can walk away with the $2,000. It's just that easy.
Thieves Beware!
Thieves Beware!
Seems there has been some thefts in the Grand River area. Here's the quote from Ian Colin James' website.
"There wouldn't have been any butt kickings if that stupid death ray had worked."

That guy seems serious... If I find the equipement I don't want the money, I just want front row seats to the beating LOL!!
Seriously, I'll keep my eyes open. Theses kinda things suck...

For guys who come to the Toronto area to fish, I have a suggestion. We're going to be on the Grand next week so I'll keep my eyes open and my doors locked. We're bringing our two German Shepherds. I'm not worried. Just let him try but then again he wouldn't want my equipment LOL.
Keeping your car doors locked does not help. Thieves know that most fishermen will have more than one rod - guess where the 2nd and third rod will be? In the trunk.
I no longer keep my wallet in my trunk. At one time I used to go fishing with 3/4 spin rods and 3/4 fly rods. I no longer do.
I now decide which rod I would use and just take one rod/reel with me. Flies or lures go in my vest and it goes with me.
I leave nothing in my car and I try to show that I have nothing in my trunk or car.
Two dogs would help. A girlfriend or wife who does not fish but likes to read would be perfect but this might not be a good idea the way things are going. In the states, it has started to happen that people have been mugged on the stream and the tackle stolen. Fly fishing tackle today is expensive.
just my .02 cents - be careful - carp-starter
A follow-up on this story: apparently, ICJ was with another angler and he put his gear in the back seat of his car. This was done in plain view of a guy who was sitting alone in his own car. ICJ left his car locked for a few minutes to talk to someone and when he returned, his gear had been stolen. Needless to say, the guy sitting alone in his car was nowhere to be seen.
In hindsight, ICJ should have been more careful, but it is truly sad about our world when you to be constantly vigilant. I guess that in the GTA minimizing the amount of gear you take on an outing is safest.

Time's fun when you're having flies.
