I just wanted to point out that they don't back up their claim with anything other than saying that this person has spent thousands of hours diving...What does that prove?

The argument that we shouldn't catch fish because they are "intelligent" just doesn't work. A mosquito has intelligence and pound for pound would probably be an Einstein but that doesn't stop us or them from swatting, maiming and killing them. PETA did fine at their beginning when they were monitering cruelty to animals in medical testing but they've now gone off the deep end.
There is an semi religious issue about "playing with your food" as native people will tell you but that is a whole other ball game.

I prefer EWG hooks but those straight shanks do give you good hook sets.
Now if Fish would just eat like dogs, it would make things a bit easier.

:DBobfly makes a good point. I have always said that vegetarians are eating their food ALIVE. At least if I eat a fish it's dead before I consume it. The poor vegetables face the thought of BEING EATEN ALIVE.

That picture actually looks familiar......I actually did hook my dog once when I was about 9 years old....My dog tried to eat my rock bass I had just brought into the boat but the rock bass fell of and instead my dog bit the hook.... fortunatly it went through his lip so I could cut off the barb and pull it out....the dog was perfectly fine by the way.....so I guess as far as PETA is concerned it;s ok for me to hook a fish in it's mouth because I have hooked a dog in the mouth, lol.....although I hope not to do it again...
The ad & picture in question are about 1 year old. PETA's assertion that fish & mammals feel pain the same way is flawed given that fish brains are physically incapable of producing a pain response like those of mammals.
I believe that everyone here is giving far too much attention to an organization that is, on it's better days, a fringe group with a big mouth. Their hystrionics have done more to alientate them from the public than to attract attention to their cause.
