Dead Fish

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Dead Fish

Post by Relic »

A heads up to all. Somthing is happening to/on/in the Ottawa thats killing fish. Just catfish that I have seen so far but lots of em. Counted thirty or fourty floaters last night alone. Caught a half dead one aswell. Pretty sick looking fungus or something growing all over them.

Ministry was up on the weekend collection fish for testing. Hope they get to the bottom of this as fast as they possibly can. If anyone gets any more info on this please let us know. I will do the same.

I noticed a lot of dead fish last week below the dam. Myself and Vince counted about 20

Could have been the run off after the heavy rain maybe :?:

It was on CJOH news this evening, the ministry is looking into it. I didn't catch all the report so I'm not sure what they had say about it. I thought I heard one comment about a warm weather die off. Will be interesting to see what comes of it.

Hi guys:

Just for the sake of clarity- these are catfish you're talking about and not bullheads?

waterfront property below the dam is starting to smell - this is really bad. Even saw one on the headpond. Rumours are including ecoli and high water temps.

This is disturbing. :( There's an article in today's Ottawa Citizen on it......in the City section. Suspicions are that this may not be a natural occurrance. :x :x

i have seen one dead cat this summer so far , But the truth i see a few evey summer always rotting and this could be just a normal occurance on the Mad . The water temps have stablized with the cooler nights . I hope this will help the situation .I will put a call into the MNR to see if they have any new information this afternoon .

I'm waterfront a few kilometres downstream from Ady and no dead fish here.
The water level has dropped dramatically as it was very high from the heavy rains a couple of weeks back. The only other unusual thing is that expanses of weeds on the Quebec side have died off which happened this time last year too for some reason.

Die off

Post by CCLad »

I wonder if this is not related to the same virus or bacteria that was responable for the kill in the ST Larry and Bay of Quinte. There is also a die off occuring in Lake Erie as well.
