salmon run

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

salmon run

Post by tritonmagnum »

My dad and i always fish the bows in the spring and ive always wante to go down and fish the slamon in the fall..my question is when do they start and when are they normally heavy. Secondly do they run as far up the river as the rainbows do and do they go into the smaller narrower tribs that the rainbows do? what kind of fish are in the run...browns too?
thanks for any help i really wanna hook into one

I would for sure recomend the Credit River. Over the past several years I have had grat success there. :)

Fish at the mouth of the river as hundreds of fisherman occupy the river itself it will be less busy and your chances will be very good a catching a least one.

I have also seen Rainbows there but never a Brown.

Hope this will help,

You should use marshmellows(large ones), Make sure you use a steel hook and your sinker should be 12-15 inches from the hook because it floats and you want it off the bottom about 12-15 inches.

Go for walk to see how others are doing it and follow them . It works well. :)

Let me know if you have other questions or send me a PM.

:D 2nd week in sept or after the next big rain you should have kings up the rivers. Bottom bouncing spawn bags in pools and pockets with a split shot works well. Also yarn flies. A sliding sinker setup with either a floating spawn bag or mini marshmallows(smaller) and better colour selection can work well. Browns I only catch on the spawn bags. Browns come in later..look for them mid to late October. It looks like it will be a big run this year with larhe sizes. The salmon are already coming into the front of the harbours at night..keep your eyes open after the next heavy rain!
