Upper NY State - Past weekend
Upper NY State - Past weekend
I decided to make a trip to upper NY state this past weekend to check things out. Saturday evening I hit the Chateaugay River north of the village. What a disappointment. With all the rain Saturday, the river was murky and un-productive plus the water level is very low. Not even a single hit. Then I tried to Salmon river south of Malone on Sunday morning. The river level was very low and I only seen one rise. So I then decided to hit the Salmon north of Malone. Much better. I landed 4 x raindows and 2 x brown lost a couple and missed about four more. The water levels here are very good plus the scenery if amazing. There was still a lot of hatching going on and seen lots of black stone fly's on the rock. Hence, either golden or black stone fly's, blue wing olives or ausable's worked very well.

Chateaugay
Yes, the river should be cleared up by then providing there is not another down-pour. It rained on/off on Saturday and very hard at times. The rain did not seem to effect the Salmon river as near as much as the Chateaugay. Please keep me posted if you have any luck on the Chateaugay. I would like to try it again latter in the fall.
