LF baitcast reel/rod

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

I've never heard of having an issue with birdnests and a spinning reel.
Upgrading to a baitcaster sure as heck won't solve your issues with birdnests unless you've used them before. I find that when people use baitcasters for the first few trips, every other cast is a disaster of a nest to unravel.
Hopefully someone else can recommend something to help you out.

I'm very tired of having bird nests with my spinning reel... Yesterday I talked to someone and he kinda made me wanna buy a baitcaster reel+rod...

So if anyone could give me a list of very good baitcasting reels and rods, please reply to this post :)

I'm looking in the 200-250$ range (btw, I want to use mono line with the reel to prevent bird nests and for max. strength)

Thanks alot in advance!

unless it was factory spooled with cheap-o mono that had been on it for a long time before it was sold, then maybe a bird's nest on a spinning reel. I agree, you wont solve the bird's nest problems by buying a baitcast reel. And putting mono on it wont help. My first baitcaster had the disaster mentioned above. I had it spooled with a super line (which I highly recommend for a baitcaster) and got a few heck of a nests until I got used to it and the line got worked in and I had the right setting on the anti-backlash.

like esox said try taking off some line and read the amout of line/ pound test reccomendation on the reel. I put about 10 yard less then one it says and never gets knots or birds nest. I would prolly say if your sick of knots and birds nest's keep your spiining combo close until you get the hang of baitcasting.

My wife bought me a Pfleuger President baitcasting reel for my birthday. I love it. It's also the least expensive 10 ball bearing reels on the market. Smooth as silk!

There is a possibility that your line on you spinning reel was put on in the wrong direction causing backlashes, or there is too much on the spool. Try a superline like Fins Prt braid. This line has great sensitivity and no memory so you won't have these problems on a spinning reel. For a baitcatsing combo the new Shimano Cruxis or Citica with a new Shimano Compre rod will fit you budget nicely and the gear is top notch. Good luck.

What Blaker said

I actually have a few baitcasters spooled up with mono. It's great for pitching wood and rock...also if on the right reel, you can launch out soft plastics out pretty far too...

I fish with either soft plastics, or very heavy bait. Soft plastics are very light and I think i reel them in too fast and it gets tangled in the line. Then, on next cast, all the line is tangled up and I waste 5 min trying to fix it  ...

abu garcia 6500 C4 great reel ,forget mono and go with a super line like power pro. it's easier to get the birdsnests out . pending on what your fishin for you may get away with a 5500
if you ever find a reel that does'nt backlash, buy them all and make yourself rich by selling them at a huge mark up

good luck
