Steering

Post by walleyejohn »

I have a 1995 Searay 20 bowrider that I recently bought, I use it for everything. It has power steering but I noticed that at low speeds it seems to go right and left constantly and I have to keep adjusting the course, this is not so bad but the steering wheel has a good bit of play in it that I would like to eliminate. The boat is over 10 years old but has been well cared for. I am not used to any boats , but this seems unusual. Any ideas on how to fix this or is this normal?
Thanx,,

what's low speeds,

if you try to hold the boat at a constant speed while it is trying to get up on plane, then you will be a victim of your own wake and the boat will act a little eratic.

:D prop thrust vs skeg and boat drag is over come and that is being overcorrected normal for a novce boat owner you'll just have to get used to it, boats that plane and have one lower unit in the water can do this, I have never experience it much on jet-drives. don't worry.

low speed is speed for crabbing or trolling it is an inboard outboard and it is unnoticeable with more gas on the throttle

try adjusting your trim, may be too low or too high
if it's set right you should go straight
