I've been humbled yet again. With the cancer, it's following surgery, a broken foot and emergency surgery to remove my appendix in roughly 2 months, while taking endless tests, bloodwork, mri's and catscans, while working on the derby at the same time.....I cracked.
I let the stress get to me, I practically stopped eating and sleeping, which isn't a good combo with heavy duty meds. I did the very thing I was telling others not to do. "Don't lose sight of the big picture." That's exactly what I did and cracked under the pressure of everything and pulled some dumba$$ things I'd never do normally.
I didn't do the a-channel interview because I felt pretty ill, wasn't going to attend the LoneStar meet for the same reason. I changed my mind at the last minute and bit the bullet. (JP did an awesome job representing FH and the derby btw).
That's when I snapped out of it. I saw old fishhawkers that confirmed their attendance to the derby with smiles. I saw generous donators that smiled and were very humble when I thanked them for their generosity. I met new hawkers who showed alot of excitement about attending.
Then the picture came into focus again. Good people with good hearts wanting to make a difference to support a cause for someone, in some cases they barely know or do not know at all. People that stepped up and gladly vollunteered their time, effort and talents to make it happen. The countless donations, help and support of more people then I can name.
This is all because of one person that fell sick to terrible disease. Made me give my head a shake and wake up and saw that big picture again and I was humbled and slightly ashamed for feeling the way I have lately. It reaffirms your faith in your fellow man. Makes you realize there is far more good than evil in the world. Made me realize why I love this site and it's members and think of them as my "Fishhawk Family." A family that stepped up and helped me up when I was down.
I smiled to myself as I hugged Slushpuppy goodbye and realized that with all I've been through, I'm a fortunate man.
So, having said all that, I thank you all for the support and genuine concern. I look forward to seeing you all Sat. at the derby.

Hey Paolo , it sure was GREAT to see you attend the function at LoneStar.
Sure was good seeing all the group out again, and more new guys and dog. I won't be able to make it to the Derby but you have my best wishes and Donation.
Take Care and have fun.
It's not about the fish you catch, it's about the money this group can raise for Cancer.
You guys that are worrying about weighing in big fish, how about donating your winnings to a hell of a GREAT Cause in the name of K-Pin.

It'll be great to meet everyone, so if you see a guy who obviously doesn't know what he's doing, stop by and say hi, and maybe give me a couple pointers!![]()

I'm in too!
The derby sounds like a blast and a great way to meet a few fellow Fish Hawkers.
I've already driven down onto the ice to check it out and drove out to the end of baitshop bay near wherte it meets walleye bay. there were plenty of trucks vans and cars out there, even a tractor. I spoke to two guys setting up and they said they just drilled trough at least 20 inches of ice. They also said that out at the end of the bays the ice thickness can change very quickly due to the current, so take care
You can see one spot at the end of baitshop bay where the ice broke and heaved to make a bit of a wall.
I'll be driving a silver Nissan pathfinder with a yellow trailer. Stop by and say hi if you get a chance.
cheers
