Long Island

Post by baz fish »

Im thinking of going to Long Island on the Rideau Sunday for some perch, pike or crappie. Is it below the dam near the locks or above the dam at the entrance. And should I bring some tip-up for some pike or just a jigging rod for pan fish and on what the perch or crappy are biting the mosted down there live bait or plastics. And is theres any walleyes been catch over there as well. Any answer would be appreciated. If anybody planning of going there Sunday and need a partner just send me a pm all be glad to fish with you.

Hi,
The place people usually go is below the dam. There is a lot of hammerhandles in there and bringing a tip-up wouldn't hurt. Long Island has a lot of small perch and they can be quite agressive, but for crappies you have to look pretty hard. I wouldn't count on walleye. They are there, but very few.

Perch bite all the time during the day and occasionally crappie bites too.

I was there on Tuesday this week below the dam by the locks. Many others have been there. Only went for perch and caught lots. Many small one but a few nice sizes too. Small jigs with 2 inch tube (red/pink worked well).

Nice - great thread. I've never fished that area and enjoyed reading this. Looking forward to reading your report Baz Fish.
