Just a point on claredon the lurker...I like your thought process...shows some good in ya. As for the small town thing that is exactly where this happened, in a small town where everyone knows everyone. We are a very friendly town but you would just bat an eye if your $1000 ice shack got destroyed and chalk it up to kids being kids??? If this is how your kids are if you have any then I can see why you say that. As for me I grew up in these small towns and know first hand that the elders of the town would have whooped you good if they found the kids doing this...How do I know??? I was one of those kids a long time ago until I got a whoopin from a elder of the town. Did my parents complain cause I got a whoopin??? No...they whooped me to. If there are no concequenses for your actions you may as well live in Iraq and be afraid of the bullies and let them run the show...I would have still been on that path if I did not fear my decisions I later made. Not saying that a whoopin is the way anymore but public humility is a good form of punishment. Have them do road work in front of their school or something. I do believe that you need to show your kids that there are consequences for thier actions so they will understand what all this means....Sorry I will end my rant now but one last point...I do agree with Claredon on the tar and feathering thing but not on the fact that these kids need to learn.
Some Press on this issue
I saw this posted on the Online version of the Ottawa Citizen on Canada.com and I presume that it is in the paper today too... nice to see.
Vandals hit fishing huts on Mississippi Lake
Five fishing huts on Mississippi Lake, south of Innisville, were reported vandalized over the weekend. OPP received a report Saturday that four huts near Rothwell Park Road had been substantially damaged. Police suspect vandals used tools to damage the huts, and said items were moved from one hut to another. It is not known whether anything was stolen, police said. Another hut, near Drummond Concession 9A and across the lake from the other huts, was reported damaged Sunday. The structure was reportedly torn apart and items including a Berkley lightning ice fishing rod and chair were missing, police said. Damage at both locations is thought to have occurred some time after March 1. Anyone with information is asked to call OPP at 613-267-2626 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
Let's hope this gets someone to phone in some info.

Come on Claredon; I can be as sypathatic as the next guy but is there no conscequences for your actions anymore. I think if they do know who did this and the kids think this is normal behavior then the parents should have to pay for the damage and the goods stolen. Then I think maybe and just maybe they will make their kids more accountable for what they are doing. If it cost Mom and Dad a couple of weeks paycheques things are going to change at home I would guess very quickly.

Clarendon if you happened upon someone, be it a kid or an adult, breaking into or destroying sometihing of yours like a shack, what would you do? Would you just walk over and say " Hey young fella, now it seems you have a bit of anger there. Why dont you and I go and have a Tims and talk out the problem?" I dont think so, you would probably let instinct take over and grab the little puke then give him a few shots, hold him down if you can and call the cops.
Im not sure why you are the defender of these pukes or whatever but the only way they may learn is if there are consequenses, especially if they are outed to the public. Post their pics around town and anywhere else IF YOU KNOW FOR SURE THEY DID IT!
Maybe if you have kids and they did something like this and you were held responsible you would change your tune.
This really angers me because I see it all the time here in Barrhaven and there are no consequences, in fact they video what they are doing and post it brazenly on sites like you tube and still get away with it. Our system is severely flawed.
And if they were in some other country they would definiely face a far more horrible punishment.
MUST GO AND GET BLOOD PRESSURE MEDS NOW

Pikeman; I know as a parent we can't possibly know where our kids are at any given moment but I know that there is absolutely no way I would find my kids involved in this kind of distruction. If there was even a remote chance that I even thought they were involved in something like this I know they would have had to have a gun held to their head or they would know that I would be so totally Pi#$ed at them for doing something sooooo stupid that they would confess in an instant to who was envolved and I would ensure compensation would be made to make this terrible situation right. My kids would pay knowing they didn't just do a totally disrespectful thing to someone elses property but brough a whole lot of disrespect to our family also. I would never, never except this type of behavior and believe me they know this would never be excepted as a type of entertainment for them or their friends.
Personally I would say posting their picture in a public way of any kind before they are convicted or wanted will get you in a big amount of trouble, especially if they are young offenders. I would also make sure that you are more than one-hundred % sure before you start blaming someone for doing something as well.

Claradon, methinks you've trolled enough. Your own words don't make any sense at this point.
I've had the humble honour of partaking in a meager meal served to me on a trip to the Dominican. The "shelter" was made up of whatever meager materials at hand. Peices of sheet metal, cardboard and wood.
Impecably clean within, the humble yet very proud occupants, whose home was on the very cane fields they worked daily, for 8-18 hrs. They refused to accept anything for their hospitality and honoured me as their guest for the simple reason, I'd given their youngest daughter some simple clothing after picking her up from a knee scrape.
You are indeed correct, some in the world don't have such luxiourious accomodations as said vandalized ice shacks. However, the penalty for the acts in question would be swift and quite more severe in the very places you insinuate, rather than our quite leniant laws in a democratic and "civilized" region we are fortunate to call home.
It is exactly for these reasons, our fortune shouldn't be taken for granted, nor should such acts be shrugged off. It's a basic and continuing degredation of society, morals and basic sense of respect.
I'm honestly confused as to exactly what axe you have to grind here. I will however, respectfully and honestly ask you to bring an axe and a grinding stone, when the next time arrives, as you and your words, just as attempting to grind an axe, without the stone, are merely serving to pronounce and indeed strengthen the arguement you are attempting to counter, with dismal results.
I'm not one to condone violence. However, a good dose of common sense, respect for others and their property as well as society in general, refusing to accept such needless acts, will help us all greatly in the end.

Not a pretty sight at all, and not something that should go unpunished I do agree.
While I hear what many are saying, I'm really hoping that none of it is actually condoning violence and taking the law into our own hands in this situation. After all, we are adults ourselves and bringing it to that level would make ourselves no better than the people who are suspected of doing this. In today's society we can't all grab pitch forks and setup a posse. Those days are over, and there are other means to deal with this type of behaviour. I believe this is the point Clarendon is trying to make, and I agree with him. I personally can't condone taking things into our own hand, however agree that doing things to help the police capture these people would be the right thing to do, as long as it's within the law that we are all bound by.
The people who are responsible for this need to be punished, irregardless of the cost of the damage, which may be a lot to some, but perhaps a penny in the bucket to others. The fact of the matter is that people need to understand consequence of their actions. Letting this go will deliver no message, so we have to ask ourselves "what proof do we have that points the finger towards these people whom we suspect"? I don't know what it is....a photo, an overheard conversation, a gut feeling, who knows. In any case, if someone is suspected, will the police not visit these lads themselves to ask them a few questions, find out where they were, and let them at least know they are being watched? The law is the means upon which these things need to be dealt with. Now assuming that if the law is percieved as doing nothing, or has become too beaurocratic, that punishment will not happen unless we do it ourselves, then that's another topic for discussion, but not for here.
Brian, this is a terrible act of vandalism on yours, and others property. Something you put a lot of work into and I'm sorry to see your shack fall to such demize. I truly hope the culprits are captured, proven to be guilty, and the proper punishment delivered.
I know we have a few law men on the board, any comments on the proper course of action that should be taken in order to find out who did this, and deliver the appropriate punishment, to ensure others think twice before repeating?

We spend our hard earned dollars to build an ice shack, only for it to be destroyed by un-caring bunch of punks. Who by the way should have their asses kicked right back into hell. I only can hope that who ever they are that justice will be served up promtly.

Hi bts: I agree with seaweed. These kids very much need to be taught a life altering lesson. If they get away with this, you can bet your butt that they will go on to bigger and better things and end up behind bars. So it behooves you to teach them that lesson for the betterment of their future. You will only be doing them a favour, and they will probably thank you later. JUST MAKE SURE THERE ARE NO WITNESSES.
P.S. Maybe their parents will thank what's happened to them!!!!!!
