I am in the market for a new musky reel. I tried using Abu's but the majority of their models sit too high on the rod for my hands, extremely uncomfortable to palm. I need a recessed reel foot or low profile reel. Nothing I have seen to date in a low profile reel has the line capacity needed. In round baitcasters, there is the Avid 300 and the new Abu 6600EXT which look like they can do the job. The Daiwa Luna 300 also falls into the mix.
This reel will be used mainly for tossing BIG swim baits and very large deep diving cranks so it needs to have some guts.
Anyone have any experience with the Avid? The 6600EXT is a little too new to get any serious feedback from. Any other suggestions?
Thanks.
Ian

Musky reel
Take a look at the new Curado 300 might be what your looking for. Low profile and lots of power.
You really want to check out the new Curado 300.
Take the time and watch the Video of Shimano's staff testing this unit out after the Dorado. Man does it get a work out. good thing it wasn't me on the rod as I would have been pulled overboard on a few of these fish hits.
Boy does this reel ever come across with the extra line capacity.

This is not going to be an easy choice. I played with a Curado 300 today and it is really sweet. My only concern is the rather soft finish on the reel body. I use my equipment hard but do not abuse it. Most of my older reels look like new. The 300 looks like it will scratch easily There was also a we bit of "Sticker Shock"
I have not found anyone locally that has the Cabo in stock so I'm just going to hold tight until Carp and then go and bug Ed........a lot.
