Back from Florida salt water fishing report (Small update)
My folks winter down in Alabama...my dad used to shore fish until he caught a stingray. I guess it freaked him out 'cause he doesn't shore fish any more.karma wrote:You never know what you will pull out of the sea down there.

Clap-for-the-Wolfman,
Jackel has caught himself some GAFFTOPSAIL CATFISH (below):
They are often mistakenly ID'd as their dangerous cousin, the HARDHEAD CATFISH. (Hardheads are known to thrash and slash their barbs into flesh while being handled.)
Gafftopsail cats are known also as a Joe Cat or Whisker Cat. To me they look like they are from outer space. We caught a couple while fishing off the pier in Ft. Myers 2 yrs. ago. Gafftopsail Cats average about 4 lbs and are supposedly good eating.
Great report, Jackel. I enjoyed it very much! Nice to see you and the family had some great fishing and fun adventures in Florida. The wildlife pic's were fun, too.

Hey Jackel,
Looks like a great trip! beautiful fish.
I hope you don't mind, I had a few minutes and decided to touch up that picture of your beauty sailfish. If I get more time soon I'll do more. (if you don't mind)

Hi,
Nice fish!
When I was catching Gafftopsail cats in Florida I was told the spines contained a venom that was extremely painful and would induce alot of swelling.
Before I was told that I was handling them like a mudpout, after that I just shook them off the hook using pliers.
Those bluefish have wicked teeth also.
Later,
Eric
