Canonto Lake

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Canonto Lake

Post by 78almostfamous »

I'm renting a cottage on Canonto Lake (near Ompah) early June. I'm having a hard time finding much info on the lake and it's fishing. The owner tells me they stock pickerel, but didn't know when / how much etc. I'm a pike fisherman, but can't find any info on that either. I have a google map of the lake. The cottage as at the south end of the lake, 10 minutes from the public boat launch.

Any info or links would be greatly appreciated.

Fished it many years ago. (20 ?)
It did have good bass and pike back then but I couldn't tell you how it is now.
They use to stock it with walleye but I don't think we ever caught any but allot of people use to fish for them.

Hopefully there are others with more recent info.

Your at the gateway of some great fishing on other lakes.
Follow the road between Palmerston and Canonto and you will find all kinds of lakes with all species of fish.

Good luck.

Thanks for what you were able to provide.

It seems like nobody knows anything about this lake? I'm hoping it's just a fluke, and not a lake with dismal fishing.

This group of volunteers raise walleye and stock them in Canonto... I understand the walleye fishery has improved greatly.

A few years ago we caught an eight pound pickeral and heard of a friend that said he lost a huge pike. This can be a good pickeral lake at certain times. Hope this helps a bit, Ciscoekid.

Thanks guys, that's great news. Especially about the local group who are helping maintain the fish levels in these lakes. It was an interesting article.
