First Trout of the Season.....a lil Piggy

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

I am 99% C& R for trout and 100% for all other fish as I am one of those weird guys who love to fish but don't eat it...The one or two I keep all year is for my father or a friend to enjoy.

 you're not the only wierd one Almonte!! I generally do NOT like to eat fish except for the odd walleye fillet during a shore lunch with a bunch of beer to wash it down :P

I can relate with almontefisher and Trouthunter, I too do not eat fish. All of
my fish go directly to my sisters and parents who enjoy the fresh fish over
the store bought.

That is one nice trout. Kudos for returning it to the water to grow bigger. With fish like that spawning the trout population of your lake will be big and healthy.

Thanks for sharing

One nice trophy Trout hunter. I agree with both you and fish boy. The days of an endless resource (lots fish) are gone and so should the days of being a meat fisherman.(having to bring home a limit everytime we go out....filling the freezer for the long winter months). Recreational fishing has increased dramatically over the last ten plus years and have impact the resources accordingly. This is especially important now with the situation within the MNR funding shortfall at present and if they are not addressed it could have and mostlikely will have an affect on the trout and other fish restocking programs. I know personally, some trout lakes like the one you fished, that if your not in there during the first two weeks of ice out...you will be out of luck, catching any trout. So if a person would want to keep such a fish for a trophy mount, its worth the extra dollars to have a fibre-glass replica made and it will last longer as well. (take photos and measure length and girth) Just my 2 cents. Congrats again Trout hunter
Cheers, Hawgbass

Thanks Hawgbass....nicely worded!!!

And....for the trout anglers out there who fish and keep their catches from stocked lakes....it is very important to keep a log and send your catch records to the local MNR office in the fall as this is the ONLY way to inform them of how many fish are being taken out of the lakes and will be a factor for the next year's stocking considerations.
