POLL....kayak/canoe fishing club

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Both names are good but I like OVPA as well (easy acronym to say). This is a great idea! :) All winter, I've been trying to think of a way to get more people involved in kayak/canoe fishing and this is perfect. Thanks Joco! Also, as I've said before, I'm willing to help in any way I can.

And nothing wrong with thinking ahead! :D

Now I just have to clean out my garage so I can get to my kayak!

Ohhh guys!

You know what? I was over to Bobber's garage last night and I got all charged up about the thought of somehow purchasing a cheap 2nd hand canoe. That dream was dampened when the wind forced repairs on my roof this week.

Lately I have been dreaming about spots that I haven't explored because a 16 ft Princecraft is a little heavy to lift off a trailer and carry 100 yards to the water.

It would be hard for me to refuse a paddle if someone were to extend the offer of their bow seat?

Paddling Resume:
I used to be a strong paddler in a canoe. Now I would have to consider myself just a paddler in a canoe. And that might actually be optimistic.

I spent many hours paddling in circles as a teenager in Newfoundland. Getting places in a canoe was mostly the result of grim determination - certainly not paddling skills. Aunt Jean changed my life by teaching me a J-stroke.

I learned a lot from paddling the icy May rivers and lakes north of Lake Nipigon on a three-and-a-half week Outward Bound Wilderness course. Paddle skillfully and hard or you die. Or struggle with making it to shore when the vegetarian diet requires a vanishing act into the woods for relief.

I continued paddling and fishing after marriage and into fatherhood - right up to the point where my canoe was stolen and my ride turned into a Sears 12 footer with a 6 hp Johnson. The paddling continued on such occasions as running out of gas and running into rocks.

If someone needs a bowman to help paddle real fast to the "first cast" spot, give me a couple of days notice and I will do my best to be a good guest in your canoe.

You won't mind a guest who insists on taking 20 rods and 11 cases of tackle with him, will you?

And that problem I had with wrecklessly flailing 7 foot rods in my paddling partners faces? That problem resolved itself through prayer and meditation.

 Better bring a couple of band-aids, just in case. :hs

Paddlecasters! Good one Nacho!

OVPA sounds good Joco....much better than, MAMBC, Middle Aged Men Buoyantly Challenged.

Reminds me of grade school gym class at Hog Back, where we learned a bit of canoeing and the instructor made both people in the boat stand on the edges of the canoe and rock it back and forth, like an old time, log rolling challenge.

That one exercise alone has successfully helped me to never tip a canoe yet, even when I was sure physics would decide differently!
