2 stroke engine oil

Post by Mick »

Hey Guys

I recently purchased a new Optimax engine. What is everyone's thoughts on buying Mercury oil versus generic say CT oil.

I appreciate your replies.

Mick, for what it is worth, I would stick to what Mercury recommends in the manual...I would not give them any reason to not honor the warranty and also prevent any motor failure in the future from an oil that is not designed for the OptiMax engine tolerances and engineering requirements.

2 stroke oil

Take a look at Mercury's Quicksilver oil, I mean look at it with your eyes and feel it with your fingers, this is premium oil, I've used it in all my motors ( all Johnson's).
It's not cheap but as with anything else, you get what you pay for.....

I'm with Eye-tracker on this one. Go with the manual, and keep the receipts.

:D It might be a bit of a shock but mercs oil is probably made by the same company the makes CT but the difference is the additive package used by merc or brp for that matter. Most oils to-day come from a few maybe 4 manufacturers, nad all that distinguishes merc from CT is the color and the fact that merc will use better or more carbon dispereser, make carbon not stick to things and that is about it.

I use the manufacturers oil first and barring that the best I can find and barring that CT, opti or etec or carb or efi their enemy is carbon and any oil that limits that I will buy. But you can be sure that it's the old adage you get what you pay for!!!!
