Primitive Camping Spot? please help!

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Primitive Camping Spot? please help!

Post by likestofish »

Hi Everyone,

A group of friends and I like to go 2-3 times a year to do some camping at a quite spot where there is few people and is within 2 hour radius from Ottawa. we have been going to Baskatong Reservoir (grand remous past maniwaki) and boating far out to a remote island and enjoying the great walleye fishing there.

This year we are a little stuck, as we no longer have a boat. Baskatong campgrounds rent boats but it takes a long time to get to seclusion on a 25hp.

Could someone reccomend a secluded spot where we could possibly rent a boat and venture out for a 4-5 days? I have been eyeing 31 mile lake (lac trente une milles - pardon the spelling), but am unsure if we can rent a dinghy there... Is there place near ottawa where we can rent a boat and motor to tow out to our spot?

Alternatively, it would be great if there was a spot that we could drive up to and enjoy the same seclusion. Ideally this would be a spot where there is no fees and other people around. I know I am asking for your "gems" - but we are cultured campers and clean up everything so others can enjoy!

Is there some backroad maps for this sort of thing? I am getting some logging road maps, but that requires trial and error , as we dont want to get to a spot on a map and realize it is not accesible or something worse...

Many thanks for any input! We are kinda stuck and would not want to break the tradition!
