bearings

Post by (Big Bass Daddy) »

Hi Muskie, go on the Bearing Buddy web site and if my memory serves me correctly I'm sure they have something written about that issue and explain on how to fix it. I think there web site is www.bearingbuddies.com

If not just google bearing buddies.

The best thing to do would be throw the bearing buddies in the garbage where they belong and put dust caps on.

I had that problem a while back as well. Unfortunately I had to throw mine out and replace them with new ones. What happened is my grease gun got stuck on the nipple and by my senseless pulling and prying i bent the nipple and it came loose. needless to say I could no longer tighten it. I no longer pull and pry on the nipples..... :D

bearing buddies

Bearing buddies work very well when they are maintained properly.
Many people apply too much grease in them and blow out a seal. This allows the grease to end up all over the inside/outside of the wheel or both. Bearing buddies work very well when the bearings are packed properly and then a slight amount of grease applied therough the nipple to create a slight pressure to prevent water infiltration....Larry

I found bearing buddies tend to work all right for the outside bearings but are of little use getting grease to the inside bearings. Many people think that by pumping some grease into the bearing buddies, they are good to go year after year only to have the inside bearing seize.

bearing buddies

If you are adding bearing buddies to your trailer wheels you first need to remove the existing bearings and check or replace them. Then hand force wheel bearing grease into them and reinstall them. The bearing buddies will allow you to add grease but the more important part is the constant pressure it applies to keep water out. Remember don't over do the grease [and therefore pressure] after installing the new bearing buddies....larry
