That looks awesome! So the shooting holes are on the far side of the pics? How do you shoot out of it? Don't say you then throw the whole sides down, that would just be stupid. Make the boat fully visible.
I'm thinking you've got some slides, camo pieces that can be slid away when you see the birds coming and don't give away the whole structure of the boat/blind.
Looks awesome with that folding set-up.. just can't seew you shoot out?
Im still working setting up some shooting openings in the top. The currant set up allows you stand up and shoot out of the centre/top section of the blind. Next time im at Bass pro in toronto Im going to pick up some more of the grass matts and just lay them over the opening to further conseal the boat. The best thing about this setup is the fact that it can be taken down and set up again in 2 min time max.
this is a photo of me and my dog "skeet" sitting in the boat with the blind set as I use it. you can see the top section is open for shooting.
OTRA ~ Yes the dog platform is homemade. I had a friend weld it up for me using angle for the platform and 1" square tub for the support frame. It also folds up towards the side of the boat for storage. I have used this plateform on my last boat and fixed blind. My dog "skeet" sure likes it. It rests just under the water and sits in front of a large bench seat on the boat. I also have a winter floor matt glued to the bottom section to help with grip. I dont like the weight of it as its made of steel. But it does work well.
I just picked up a used 20HP merc to power the boat. Looking forward to the next trip out. The 8hp kicker just dident work.
Now I need I used trailer, And Id like to add some fixed bow and stern lighting. I dont like the currant clamp on style lights that im using.
Hi 1lastcast,
Love the set-up, and the picture of you and your dog caused an instant flash back of myself, my brothers and our labs (each brother had their own lab, and my mother used to say each dog took on the sons personality) and growing up on Lake Erie at the mouth of the Detroit River. We used to live for our fall duck hunting, but all became so frustated with the ban of lead shot and the gun registry that we all quit and gave up a life style that will never be forgotten. Now we just fish. Thanks for sharing and bringing back the memories.
Banning leadshot and the gun-registry made you give up duck hunting????
What you're addicted to lead and can't register your gun? Has it been used in a crime or something? You're so against the gun-registry that you give up the sport? So the guns just sit under your bed now?
Erie-Eyes ~ Yes I steel shot sure dont compare to Lead! You have to learn to hunt all over again. We adapt and most guys I hunt with are using 3" or even 3.5" shot in a number #2 on the lake and #4 on ponds.
Funny I think the biggest reason I hunt is because of my dog. Last year I only got out pond hunting twice. The Dog had to stay at home as I was the guest. Man It was hard to look him in the eye and tell him I was only going to work. After selling my small tinny and buying a large boat for fishing. I realized that once fall came I would have to make the choice to put the gun away or buy a duck boat. Well lets just say "skeet" talked me into it
Hes not the best duck dog in the world. But Im not the best duck hunter either. So I guess your mom is right, he does have my personality. I wouldent trade him for any other dog out there.
You shouldent let the Ban of lead shot and the silly gun laws keep you from continuing to creat great memorys!!!
Woodie ~ Nice Handle! I almost named my dog Woodie. Not so much after the Duck more because he loved to help with the firewood. he would take logs and run off with them then chew them. Anyways...
Nice setup! I have yet to hunt for blue bills. Maybe you can give me some pointers as to number and rigging tech of decoys? Is your blind fixed in the position of the photo or can you lower it? Good luck out there this season and most of all be safe.
