Another Outdoor Card Question

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Another Outdoor Card Question

Post by Mr. T. »

I was bored at work and went to the MNR site to look up fishing licenses since it's almost end of the year.

Anyways, I ended up at the Outdoor Card section so I entered my outdoor card number. This is what came back.

I do have a license tag for this year. I bought it from a bait shop in the Ottawa area.

Should I be worried? Should I bother getting MNR to fix this? I'm pretty sure I still have the receipt, have to check when I get home.

Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't worry about it. Mine only says that i have a 3 year fishing license. But that is the only thing I bought at the same as I bought my Outdoors card. But I have a whole bunch of stickers on it also for all the hunting licenses that I have. But I bought all those separately.

By the way thanks for getting me to look at it, cause mine expires at the end of 2007. Wouldn't want to be caught on New Years Day without my new card and fishing license. Hopefully it's freezing on that day. So I can really have a HAPPY New Year sitting in my Fishtrap and jigging up some nice eyes.

Seaweed did you buy the license at the same time as buying the card??? I think that he bought them seperately. Me only my 3 years fishing license comes up and not any of my hunting licenses.

For 2006 I went to a bait shop, which I won't name, and purchased both outdoor card (OC) and fishing license, first time getting an OC.

It's obvious that they processed it because I have an OC.

For 2007, I went to the same bait shop and purchased just a fishing license.

I remember now. I had to ask for my receipt after the guy crumpled it up and threw it out right in front of me. And he said "Oh, you wanted that." I'm thinking he may have done the same with my fishing license form and just pocketed the money.

Seaweed, do you get your licenses online or in person at a bait shop? I might try the online route this time.

Your cards are always good for a few years but it is the stickers you need to get every year or every three years. The cards itself can be purchased one year with a sticker and the next year you can have the card and no sticker but the card is still valid. Now without the sticker you can not fish but the card is still good. Check your card and there is an expire date on it . At the end of all the numbers the last two digits is your card expiry date. Did that confuse evryone cause I sure am now

I always just get the 3 yr card with 3 yr tag included so I don't have to remember to get a sticker every yr.

Good timing on the post, it reminded me that mine is up in Dec.

If your not showing any licenses along with your card then I would get it checked just to be sure.
better safe then sorry.
I'd think that if there is a sticker that valid for the time period you should be okay (unless its forged) .

It appears that the licenses that are bought online show the correct info but those bought as stickers are not.

Well I pulled out my crumpled receipt and looked at my outdoor card. It seems valid, yellow tag with a seven digit number beginning with an S.

I think I have to buy one more tag before I can buy online.

Dartee, I was going to buy the three year but the bait shop said that they didn't sell those. I'm doing this next time.

Anyways, I sent an email to the MNR and I hope I get a response. I will post it if I get anything.

Thanks again. :D

Mr T Hopefully youre mishap didnt happen where I work. If it did sorry. I know we dont always give our till receipt due to the fact that the only significant proof of purchase in the ministry's eyes is the license itself. As far as the possibility of crumpling your license and keeping the money. Highly unlikely. Every license that is issued to the issuer has to be paid for at the end of the month. every slip that is not returned to the ministry is deemed the issuers fault and the get charged full pop.
