Musky Reports

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Okay, so maybe I should have been a little more clear. I am not personally looking for people to tell me where exactly they have caught fish. Part of fishing is finding your own hole and calling it your own.

What I meant, and I can see its about 50/50, is share what is working.

I was out on Pigeon for example this past Saturday. If you look back a few posts you will see my Pigeon Report.

Pigeon, or for that matter, any of the Kawartha's are no secret, they are all hot or cold at times and everyone seems to hit them. I mainly fish Georgian Bay, Severn/Pointe Au Baril area. I am new to the Musky game, this is my first year actually making a valid attempt. But the outings I put the time in, I have had relative success.

So to get to the point, really I am hoping for people to share Lure (color/type), locations (weeds/rocks/points/open water). Thats all. I am not looking for someone to tell me they were fishing about 80 feet north west of xy point on the little weedbed that protrudes about 30 feed offshore. Not at all. Just what is working and what is not.

I want to catch the fish on my own, not from someone pin pointing where I should be.

The fish I caught on saturday, nothing special at all about 40" or so, was caught on a sucker Suick in heavy weeds. (this should be enough) I had 4 follows on a Jake, 2 on a depthraider. Casting. No luck trolling.

If thats too much info to be giving out, I think some people need to take up something that is a little more secretive then fishing. Maybe go work for the Government or something. Joking.

Sorry for all of the confusion, best of luck to everyone this fall. I know I will be making it out about 5 more times this year. I will keep updating.

If I figure out how to put a picture on a post, I will be sure to do it.

Thanks,

Mike

1.) You never know who'll take a run at you for holding a fish wrong, giving up a secret spot or just someone who likes to stir trouble. That's been the mood of late.

Hey Ratsotail,

I forgot to mention this, this is one of my huge concerns. People holding the fish wrong. It's a major issue that not enough people are educated on.

I would love to see someone start a topic for save handling/CPR of large fish. Look at the pictures in the Pike/Musky section of photos. More than 50% could be harming the fish. Holding it vertically. NO! :x

I am to knew to start such a controversial topic, but the more I see it happen, the more I want to say something. I am just trying to to offend people (I am one of the new guys) I always came on here and to read what people have been saying until I saw one post I had to reply to (Boa Grip).

Just my thoughts,

Mike

Yepp...Personally I do not mind sharing information, but I prefer sharing info in person or with people I know personally. I have had 108 (counted on fishing log) outings since april, and I cannot remember posting more than a few reports here, and I rarely ever bring the camera with me anymore. Most of my spots are just a bikeride away from my house so I do not share much on the locations.

Grant, I must publicly apologize. I must have misread who posted. I would have to ask you to cut me some slack as I am new to this whole forum world. If I saw that it was you who posted, I would have addressed you by your name.

Please accept this as my apology. I will practice a little more due diligence next time.

Hey Grant he wants Muskie info not Bass and Walleye

But MuskyMike411 I find that fish on different waters want different things on different days, I guess thats what makes Muskie's such a pleasure to fish for :D

I was out on the river a few hours Sat and Sun trolling with no luck whatsoever...tried Jakes, DepthRaiders, Ernies, Believers, Super Believers and even bucktails....

Tried depths of 40' right up to 11'......nothing!!...didn't even mark a lot of fish..A few people are thinking that the Muskies are still in shallower water and the fact that you caught yours in heavy weeds makes me think that they are...

Gettin' your wings wet a bit early, eh Musky Mike. It's generally a friendly site governed by friendly ribbing! I look forward to some reports and conversation.

When holding a larger fish for pictures, the back/stomach needs to be supported. If i can figure out how to get pictures in topics I will post a few. I am just too new at this, so give me a bit to figure it out.

You can lift it 2 ways, one, under the gill play, being sure not to touch any part of the gills and the other, slide your hand down the belly between the fin and the anus. This protects all the vital organs and the spine of the fish. It puts little stress on the body of the fish, ensuring survival.

As for time out of the water, I would like to see no more than 3 or 4 pictures taken then back in the water.

I use a Frabill Power Catch net, which doesnt harm the fish, keeps it in a pen and most importantly keeps it in the water. It removes no slime and wont split its fins. Some disagree that a net shouldnt be used at all, but for the safety of both the fish and the fishermen, I think a Big Game net is a must.

I am not sure if this should be a new topic or not

Let me know what you guys think,

Mike
