Muskrat Lake Ice

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

If we keep getting this kind of weather, you should be fine for Jan 12. Expect to be trudging through a decent amount of slush and snow though.

What are you planning to fish for on Muskrat?

Beachburger,

So are you going to be trying your luck through the ice on your local "rainbow" Lake this year? ;-)

John....I just got back from my first actual ice fishing venture out here on the Ottawa...the ice isn't in good shape!!!!..There's 8" for sure, but I could put the tip of my scoop in between the first 2 layers of white ice...the first layer ( I presume from the rain last week) was at 3" thick...then I rubbed the scoop down along the wall of the hole to the next layer which was at 5".....then it was 3" of black ice from there.....

This was right in Constance Bay, 200yds from shore, in about 8' of water...

Muskrat is a deep lake.....take care out there!!!!..

I think after about a week you should be looking to head to the store for pampers and side trail over to a couple holes and tips!

Muskrat Lake Ice

Post by Braeside »

Just before supper I was chatting to a good ol' boy who lives near the Pembroke end of Muskrat. He advises that the ice on the mid sections of the lake where the water is deep is still very slushy, and in some spots is basically just snow covered with a thin layer of ice.

A week or so of -10 or better weather would help, but I wouldn't count on it. Maybe staying home and practicing putting on diapers might be better than ending up on the bottom of the lake. There's always next year!

Hey Braeside

Shack is out and there was 10 inches of ice on the Ottawa.. Caught some eyes and all is good. Some slushy parts but the bay is solid....
