Hello to you all, i am a new member here and so far i am quite impressed Anyways my wife and i are planning on putting our trailer at Black Donald trailer park and i was wondering generally speaking does anyone have any idea the predominant fish species there as well as the others? The main reason we are gonna go there with trailer is to fish the back lakes and this campground is more or less a jumping off spot to do so....Anyhow thanx for any feedback anyone can afford us, Keep yer lines wet and yer drags smooth lookin forward to the ice fishin......
i believe i've been upthere once for a week getaway kinda thing a while ago... i lost the biggest pike i've ever encountered.... it hit 3 baits the day after but just never got hooked... anyways... good luck...
If your going to fish back lakes, your in a good area to do so. The MNR stocks alot of small lakes around there with brookies, rainbows, and splake. Some are really easy to get to as well. If you call the MNR office in Pembroke they can send you a stocking list of the lakes. Good Luck!
Welcome to Fish-Hawk! Black Donald is on my 2008 list of places to check out. There are thousands of bodies of water around these areas and I plan on hitting as many as I can. I fished quite a few last year, but didn't make it to this one, so I'm afraid I'm not much help, but it looks like several others have.
The majority of the back lakes require 4x4 to access, though there are a handful that are right off the highway. You'll also need to haul in some form of watercraft, whether it's a canoe, float tube, etc.
Also keep in mind that a number of the back lakes are now covered by a baitfish ban under the new regs.
I remember that i was using a dark coloured slug-go rigged without any weight just on a #1 or #2 offset worm hook twiching it back to me, i also used a few spoons that the pike hit, also hit a i believe it was a Smithwick Rogue, but one of the long slender style twich baits on the market.... hope this helps... i was also fishing out of a canoe in about 8-10ft... beautiful lake with lots of water to cover... im sure u wont regret the choice of lake... i know i've been meaning to get back out there for my PB Pike... Black Donald / Centenial are great for LMB and SMB also walleye and whitefish. Great water up there. Make sure you have charts and or a GPS as it's easy to get turned around.

Its true... that lake is incredibly confusing if you have no map or GPS... i was in a canoe and what a trip.... you feel like your going in circles... oh yeah... i might have been.... only paddeled on the left side... lol... jk. jk. anyways.... be careful on this lake as i remember it to be very trickey... everything looks the same... anyways.... i wish you the best of luck... get out there and haul in that pike i missed... just please post a pic... for the memories... kind of a sentimental thing... notice how that big word ends in mental... lol.... ok no more rambling on...
I can't comment on the back lakes as I don't know them that well. But the above info is correct for Black Donald. I've fished it a few times, but have fished cenntenial too many times to count. There are big bass in there and lots of them, the walleye are there, but have declined in the past number of years. I had good luck for walleye in BD trolling in about 30 FOW, with walleye divers and tail dancers. If you need info on any of the bigger lakes in the valley let me know and I may be able to help.
