Water levels are a mith.....
We are not spilling any water on the Ottawa and all units are running as normal. I am not sure where this is coming from but it's not true fellas.. .
Just so you know the units run normal peak hours morning, dinner and supper and if there was to much water then spills are open. This has not happened yet this year...

Hey Joco....
Now I know where you mean and where the spills occur. I work out of our HQ in Renfrew for OPG and our large plants on the Ottawa namely Chats Falls, Des Jochim's, Chenaux and Otto Holden.
Typically we try not to spill as you know spilling means lost oppourtunity for generation. In the Spring we have no choice as well when frechett is on in May we spill.
The Ottawa river generally fluctuates 1 meter daily from normal flow rates. This also can result in some breaking along the shorelines. The ice tends to expand and contract and the 1 meter tends not to affect the ice. Heaves as you know are normal and mostly occur between points on the Ottawa to Quebec side.
I can't speak for ice movements and flows beyond Chats Falls in Fitzroy. You definatly would know this better than I. What I do know is that near Quyon the freeze there is slower to happen than in most other places.
Anyhow, good to see we have ice and finally ppl are ice fishing...
Cheers!

hi..you say.. as you know spilling means lost oppourtunity for generation
you can saw this.wen we spill it cost monney we have to pay the province for all the the water that is not turbine..
its weird how the hq is divide now like hydro one....production/transportatio/distribution etc....like all deferent company in one.
so wen we spill....we have to pay plus loose the production monney..
.
anyway.nice to see you work over there...not far frome me like 10 min or so..wen you are at chenaux...i am just above it in the right channel...

You would need to have a very long run of warm weather and lots of rain.. The flows out of the north are partly driven by the amount of precepitation developing downstream. Example of this is that if it rains for days and weather is warm then less water is released out of the Northern watershed. You have to remeber that the Ottawa River for the most part is actual a diversion of water out of the far reachs of the North. There is lots of info on the internet about how this came about.
The real question is should I pull my shack to shore this weekend... Hmmmmmmmm Any advice based on past history?
