Had a small confrontation with a poacher!!

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

If buddy is a resident of Quebec and has a license, he is allowed to fish 6 lines any where on the Ottawa river.

CCLAD I am sure that your info is not correct. I have e-mailed MNR on both sides and this is what there response was.

Border waters is as follow.

Either license is good BUT if you fish on the Quebec side of the border (printed on all maps of the Ottawa River) you fish by the Quebec regulations and if you fish on the Ontario side of the Border you follow the Ontario regulations. So this guy was fishing At Petrie islands so it doesn't matter where he is from Ont. or Que. he is still allowed only 2 lines.

Dan,

I'm glad you spoke up and made a difference. At least those guys know there are plenty of people other than CO's watching. Probably won't give them a moral turn-around, but if it put a halt to the poaching, that's good enough.

Was on small lake in ontario this weekend and there was a group of three fishn with a least 14 lines  . The guys just dont care. I have not seen a conservation officer in over 5 years. and Im on the water just about every other weekend. Im the only one on the water and these guys are locals so what am I to do. Turn a blind eye cause if I dont both my vehicle and myself are at risk and its an area I go to alot. The government has gotta step up and fund the MNR. I had to drive almost an hour out of town and back in order to buy a license so I could fish legaly because nobody in town has licenses the day before the new season starts. BS. hows that for a rant

regs

My bad, it is 5 lines not 6, miss print. How ever, there is no border regarding the Ottawa river. If you are a resident of either Provence the regulations for that provence are what you are to follow. Both apply on the Ottawa river, any part of it.

But good on you for taking down someone not following the rules!

So just a question because in the summer I fish the Ottawa near Arnprior and I may have gone into Quebec but unsure...Anyway how do you see the border line when you are on the water??? Or do you just aproximate where you are. Or is what everyone is getting at here is that if you leave shore from Ontario you fish Ontario rules and vise versa or once you cross this imaginary border you fish those rules??? I know I marked on the water in the summer where I thought the line was but with all this ice I cannot see my mark anymore  ...I knew I should have used better paint

Dan: I know it is marked on the map but when you are on the water how do you know. I need to know this so I do not fish illegally in Quebec. Do you just cut the river in half??

I could say to look at your GPS or a good approximation. It's not like the river is 10 miles wide!

Getngjiggy the poacher I talked to tonight with the seven lines I think is the same one that Pchilly talked about last week when you mentioned the Status card.
