ICE DERBY EVENT

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Dan, I don't think that extra effort and cost to write all that on the ticket is really required!!...Anyone that comes out to fish on the derby day should already be fully aware of the fishing regulations :!:....I'm pretty sure that you will see MNR out that weekend for the derby:wink:

TMH In this day and age, I am sure a couple of extra lines on a paper ticket is not that much more expensive.

All they need is in BOLD characters

BEWARE NEW WALLEYE REGULATIONS!!

As of March 1st there is a walleye slot size on the Ottawa river. The organizers knew that without Walleye as a catagory in an ice derby many people might not enter. Since this new slot size comes into effect that day to make it fair and fun we figured who ever brings us the shortest walleye within the legal size wins the prize.

I am currently working on the rules and regulations for the derby and should have them up in the next couple of days. This will clarify everything a bit more once they are posted.

As far as procedures for weighing in, The fish must be alive. There is a couple of reasons why we do this.
1. There has been people who have tried to cheat in the past with fish caught on different boddies of water or on different days. This keeps everyone honest.
2. We like to promote catch and release tournaments and this ensures that someone who does not want to keep their catch can release it in a hole by the check in we will have open.

Hope this clears up some things

WOW... well this is unfortunite... i finally get a hang for walleye fishin and what happens... now im not allowed to fish for a big walleye... lol... well i just cant keep them right? i know we are not allowed to use them during the tournament but if we are catching 5 and 6+ pound fish and putting them right back in the hole isnt that legal?

If you return the fish as soon as possible in a manner that does not harm the fish then there is no legal issue. You can not keep anything outside the slot.
