Constance Lake - Sunday Feb 10

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Constance Lake - Sunday Feb 10

Post by JasonT »

Hit the ice at 1pm. Yes it was cold and the wind was severe.
Drilled 4 holes and setup my new 4man Ice-Cube. Voila, instant shelter.
30 minutes and nothing, but watched a a couple guys pull in 2 few perch.
Then *Bam* pike on and the action started (1:30'ish)
and it kept up till about 4pm. Ended up with a fish about every 15-30minutes. Total was 7 pike, all under 3pounds. Lost 3 that somehow bit through my 30lb powerpro line. Used live minnows on a tandem rig.

Considered keeping one but all the pike had the black dot thing (virus/parasite??), so let them all go. Does the virus/parasite spread to the meat (ie. is it safe to eat?)

By the time I packed up the wind was so sever that the snow drift covered the plowed road and had to get some help getting out. Hah that was not fun.

Will try Constance bay next weekend.

Tight lines to all.

Whereabouts where you on the lake? I was out with my kids and some friends for a walk. We just went straight out from the boat launch. I know there was some people fishing at the other end. I asked the guys fishing there if they had caught anything. They only caught some small pikes. Just curious if it was you I spoke to. I know there was someone else not far these guys, maybe that was you. Oh well, it was real cold out there. I don't know how you stayed out there. That wind was nasty.

so you've never fished constance lake, but the last time you tried to fish there you hit a 200lb deer. how does that make sense.

Hi jason,

sounds like some fun & decent action. Small pike beat no pike at all, which is what you get when you're like me and don't ice fish.

Gord, Slushy and some other great Hawk Talkers showed me a fun day on the ice at Constance during the Wolfe Howl II (we should do one of those again, as it's the only way I get out there). I remember people were catching some smaller pike, but RJ got a decent one.

With regard to the black dots: maybe the pike are getting smart and painting themselves with spots to avoid the dinner table...kind of like when you made yourself appear sick to your parents to miss school when you were a kid!

Here's an exact map

http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=q&hl=en&ge ... &z=15&om=0

Right where it says "Constance Lake". Just below that off the point maybe 80 feet out. About 6-7feet of water under the ice.

That's very good, Matt. I should have added 'anymore' in there. So, I never fish there anymore. I used to fish there, but do not fish there anymore. Does that make sense for you now?

I saw your Ice-Cube, just past the other two guys I was talking to. They had a wooden shack(Probably rental). They had a few tip ups set up. It was getting pretty windy out there. It must have been really cold and windy where the people on the north side were. It is wide open there for sure. Good luck this weekend. It has been a long time since I fished there, but during the summer months we used to catch some good sized pike on the north east section of the lake. Right in front of the point. I don't know about winter time though.
