Availability of dace minnows

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Availability of dace minnows

Post by Namaycush »

Do any of the local (Ottawa area) bait dealers have dace minnows?

I prefer dace to shiners for deep water fishing and I have not been able to find any this year.

You will find them in some of the outlying bait shops....mostly because they trap their own bait I believe...

I have no stomach for shiners at all.....they die at the sight of a hook....if they make it to the lake alive in the first place....

Scroll down to:

Phoxinus eos (Cope, 1862)

one of the more common species used for bait.

I just realized many of you may not be aware of Brian Coad's web site

Fishes of Canada's National Capital Region

Check out:

http://www.briancoad.com/NCR/IntroductionNCR.htm

Very good info on all the fishes ever recorded in the Ottawa District.

TMH, Nodie, Tip-up thanks for the info.

I just checked with:

Bayview Bait in Constance Bay and confirmed the $5/dozen.

I'm in Kanata so I'll drop out to Bayview before the weekend !

Looks like a great weekend for some hard water fishing!!!
