I'm planning to buy a Briggs & Stratton outboard for a 12 ft jon boat. Any user reviews for this outboard?
Thankyou

tune-up ahhggg

I like maintenance check and EVERY MOTOR NEEDS MAINTENANCE ONCE A YEAR TODAY..... WHY??????????
Gasoline....will cause all sorts of problems .....
I will change plugs once a year.....(let the debate begin)))
I will change gear oil by hourly rate every 50 hours or yearly
I will check and pressurize the fuel system...
I will check the ignition system...
I will check fastener torque....
I will check cooling system....
I will check charging system.....
I will check TNT system/mechanism....
Lubricate grease fittings and linkages...
Those are some seasonal checks but as the motors get up in hours then other things need to be checked or replaced ie water pumps, filters , TNT fluid...
Plus I will check trailer seals and bearings visually............ it's very easy actaully
I will report on anything that looks like it may cause you an issue before the seasons out...
THEN I will recommend you get a PROPER winterising which can entail the service check and this will save you time in the spring, you don't have to wait with the other people getting TUNE-UPS which today I don't know what that means or entails....
That term was fine when as a mechanic you actually turned something....To-day it's change and replace as an assembly....
Becasue of regulations for emissions most engines come to-day untunable, caps over jet screws and DI and EFI no way to tune anything...
SO IF they are advertising tune-ups they probably use SNAKE OIL brand products
