Carp Bait

Does anyone have a proven carp bait? Also tips on terminal tackle rigging and chumming. I have the Grand River and some ponds at my disposal.

I've only been carp fishing with carp-specific tackle for one season. Generally, I chum with corn and then use either boilies or corn as bait. Yellow boilies seem to outfish other colours in my experience.

If you're looking to fly fish for carp you're best bet is to nymph for them. Either a Pheasant Tail Nymph or a Hare's Ear nymph would be a good start. Below is a link to an article on fly fishing for carp. No chumming required.

Thanks guys, I used to bow fish for them, catch and release was a little hit and miss . After having been spooled a couple of times using the same rod that landed salmon, I've come to respect them as a fish worth targeting. Salar do you use strike indicators with your nymphs or are the strikes unmistakable??

I've never fished for carp myself. When nymphing for trout I use a strike indicator in most conditions (except very clear water). From what I've read carp tend to be very skittish, so using a strike indicator may spook them.

Salar I take it you've fished White Lake since you are from Arnprior. We fished it 2 years ago, we had a Doctor visiting from New Zealand join us and he inspired my kids and I to start flyfishing. He outfished the boat using an olive wooly bugger, catching bass pike and perch. I love that lake.

That's one of the lakes I've been meaning to get to but haven't yet. Around Arnprior I mostly fish the Ottawa River. There have been days where I've seen an Olive Woolly Bugger outproduce tackle for bass & pike.
